Chai Lai Cabin #4 is a large room with 2-3 beds, a sofa, and small dining table, private balcony outdoor seating area. The room features high ceilings, and most importantly great air-conditioning. This room is located at an elephant camp on the river. The property is owned Plern Malee and managed by Chai Lai Orchid. The Chai Lai Orchid is a social business that funds Karen women's empowerment programs and anti trafficking initiatives.

The space

Here you can spend your days interacting with elephants — playing, feeding, and bathing them. Cool off with an afternoon swim in a fresh mountain water pool. Ride down the river in a bamboo raft, or simply float away in a tube without a care in the world. Go trekking on endless trails that lead to secret waterfalls, beautiful vistas, Hill Tribe villages and hidden spots unreachable by car.

Interaction with guests

We are here everyday running the training program for Daughters Rising and the Chai Lai Orchid and we have a great staff of trainees from the Karen and Kayah hill tribes who welcome you and make you feel at home in the jungle.

Chai Lai Orchid was a bit daring on our part, since we are an older couple exploring Asia. Though good sports, we struggled to jump into the back of a pickup truck with no seats, for the drive to the start of the bamboo rafting on the river as an example. But we did it! And we really enjoyed. We chose a room with AC and found that was a nice respite in the late and usually quiet afternoon. The elephants were all around the camp. This was a good learning experience. We saw basket rides, but were happy to be able to ride an elephant bareback. This puts much less stress on the elephants. Washing Dee Dee in the river a highlight. We enjoyed our meals. The Daughters Rising program is also an impressive initiative. The staff are made up of many of these women. Finally, we took a tour of a Karen village and rice fields, including lunch prepared by our guide in his home. Had we been interested we could have hiked to a nearby waterfall, but we were content with our modified version. It seems you can customize most of the offerings. This was a good experience. We recommend it! Special salute to Kuhn Neng, the Chai Lai songthaew driver. Wonderful.

We (2 50++ Women) had a wonderful time - we fed and bathed an elephant - went to a little village and waterfall area and walked around and had a raft ride down the river. The staff couldn't have been lovelier. Some really good food and drinks at the Chai Lai Orchard as well as at the café adjacent to the accommodation. Unfortunately we only had one night as there are lots of activities on offer. It is all very rustic but clean, comfortable, and great experience. Highly recommend.

It's been a great time staying here! My boyfriend and I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. Elephant ride and bamboo rafting were fantastic experiences definitely worth a try! The host was nice and friendly, really helpful on arranging for us all sorts of transport and introducing us to local taxi app! This trip - no fuss at all!

We are the Chai Lai Orchid team and we are happy to welcome you to our home <3
We live at an elephant camp and is also a safe home for refugee and ethnic minority women. It serves as a vocational training program where staff are paid to learn hospitality and also taught to be mentors and leaders in their own communities. Proceeds from the eco lodge fund Daughters Rising.

Our style of hosting is to treat guests like family so they can explore the real amazing and beautiful Thailand, beyond the typical tourist experience.
