About this listing
In the City center of Valjevo, next to the river, and pedestrian zone. For a relaxing weekend, visiting river valley of Gradac, monuments, churches and monasteries.
On foot : 20mn railway station, 2mn city center, 1 min bus & taxi.
Valjevo is a quite nice city, one of a few in Serbia which survived undamaged WWII and socialist development - in summer dead during day but live over night (with cheap local bier). The house is at the edge of pedestrian zone. If you are going to have time I advise you to visit Ćelije Monastery and river Gradac (you can reach river easily on foot from monastery parking). There is also a nice panoramic view of the city next to monument to Stefan Filipovic. Regarding food, a bakery is at beginning of the street, otherwise cheap/good BBQ (called "Kod sata") is next to the big public clock on the other side of the pedestrian zone, and restaurant Hemingway (also in the same pedestrian street) is another good place to eat. On the other side of the river (400m), there is a market where you can buy fruits and vegetables.
You can take taxi from Valjevo to Ćelije Monastery and river Gradac (taxi is much cheaper then in Belgrade). The monastery itself you can reach by train or local bus - there is few trains per day, and you have to exit on the first station after the city, making error would make return complicated. From the monastery you can follow the river further to Lelić (another monastery) and source of the river (6km walk, last 1km you have to depart from the river). Near Ćelije monastery there is a small restaurant where you can eat (trout).
You can access river Gradac also from Valjevo on foot or by bike. Another nice bike tour is tour to Petnica cave, church and lake.
You can also enjoy in park-like atmosphere of around Brankovina church and school yard. Old church is surrounded with historical village schools and small houses made by villagers for picnicking on Sundays and religious feasts. Despite fact that you do not see many houses around you are actually in the center of large village which is spread over the rolling hills (defense strategy developed through centuries of Turkish-Austro-Hungarian and German invasions - you cannot destroy-loot village if it is not concentrated).
If you are going direction (you need car-day trip) Bajina Basta and Drina river - visit Pustinja Monastery (with fresco, quite wild surrounding, narrow asphalt road leading to it splits from main road about 5km from monastery). There is also a house in the middle of river Drina in Bajina Basta, and the restaurant above waterfall in Perucac.
It is possible to stay longer in the appartment (until 18h) if it is not booked for next day. This will be charged 8 euros.
