This is one of two bedrooms available in Chez Irene. It is on the ground floor, faces south and has doors onto a large sunny patio. There is a large cupboard with shelves for storage and a seating area with table.

The shared guest bathroom has a WC, bidet, sink, bath and shower.
(see https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/12788052?preview=&sug=50 for room 2).

In summer (July, August and September) guests are welcome to use the pool.

The area is excellent for walking, cycling and winter skiing.

The space

Chez Irene is in a peaceful location just outside the medieval town of Mirepoix. It is situated at the end of a driveway off a country lane where there is ample parking for guests.
The entrance is up six steps onto a sunny east facing patio, perfect for morning coffee.
Once inside you will be welcomed to a house full of character and charm.

Guest access

Guests are welcome to use the patio, garden and pool (*).
Breakfast will be served in the dining room or on the patio.
Bikes can be stored in the garage if advance notice is given.
New semi-sunk pool with decking area for 2017 season.

Interaction with guests

A complimentary drink will welcome you to my home and, after showing you around, I will happily spend some time chatting about the area - my favourite places to visit, restaurants to try and what is happening locally with regard to markets, fetes, festivals and concerts.

Other things to note

There are two beautiful chateaux nearby which host weddings and music events - Chateau de Queille is 5 minutes away and the Abbaye-Chateau de Camon 15 minutes.
Mirepoix is a 10 minute drive. It is full of character, has several bars and restaurants and is a wonderful place to soak up the relaxed atmosphere of the Ariege. Market day is Monday and there is an abundance of excellent local produce on sale.
In the other direction are the beauty spots of Lac Montbel (15 minutes), Montsegur (40 minutes) and Roquefixade (30 minutes). All are good places to picnic or, if you prefer, Montbel has a few snack bars and there are several restaurants in Montsegur and one in Roquefixade.
In winter there are a number of ski resorts to choose from - Mont D'Olmes (45 minutes) and Ax-Les-Thermes (60 minutes) are the most accessible from here.

Back for the fourth time ! I love it here . It s a little haven . Irene was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble . Our bedroom had doors out to the spacious gardens with views of the Pyrenees . I loved sitting there at night - a great place for star- gazing . . We were welcomed with a glass of kir and she was very knowledgeable regarding places to visit . Mirepoix , a beautiful medieval town is 10 minutes away . The market on a monday is fantastic ! Carcassonne is only 40 minutes away . Irene is a great hostess and is happy to chat over a glass of wine and is equally mindful of your need for privacy . The guest bedrooms are away from her rooms so felt quite self - contained . There is a lovely 40 minute walk up to a local chateau from the house . I can highly reccommend Chez Irene and can t wait to go back . Merci Irene .

Chez Irene is exactly as you see on the Airbnb site - a lovely clean spacious place. I had a wonderful stay and enjoyed Irene's delicious cooking - she's an incredibly generous and kind host. I also had the pleasure of using the plunge pool briefly. It'd be a perfect place to stay if you are into cycling or just wanting to explore the beautiful countryside. I'd imagine it'd also be great in winter for skiing. Very highly recommended!

We booked Chez Irene after searching for a base to cycle the Pyrenees, to do a driving tour of northern Spain then back to see day twelve of 2016 tour de France. We were absolutely delighted with the location as it is only 40 mins from Carcassone airport . There is superb cycling countryside right from the doorstep and Bilbao is less than four hours away. And If that wasn't a lovely surprise then the fact that Irene turned out to be a wonderful and very helpful host that made our holiday perfect. Her house is clean spacious and very comfortable with ample secure storage for bikes. Her cooking is superb and she has extensive knowledge of the area, giving us very useful recommendations eg Mirepoix town, Chateau de mont segur, Roquefixade, and La Garde Night market, a real insight on rural french way of life and incredible scenery. Irene is a lovely person, offers great value for money and we would definitely recommend Chez Irene for anyone looking for a real taste of southern French hospitality, walking and cycling, friendly accommodation, excellent cooking and glorious countryside.

I am Scottish and a former professional musician with a major UK symphony orchestra. I have travelled the world throughout my career and am now settled in the beautiful Ariege. I love to cook and entertain and would describe myself as a people person.
