Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 250 year old Wise Cottage has a boutique feel and sweeping views. Situated in a beautiful village near Shaftesbury, Dorset.

The cottage sleeps four, 1 large master bedroom with a super kingsize bed and a small bedroom with adult bunks (plus a guest bed for a fifth guest). Well behaved dogs are welcome!
Organic toiletries, bath robes, well equipped kitchen, wood burner, super fast Wifi, garden and beautiful walks straight out of the front door.

The space
There is a large sitting room with oak dining table and contemporary chairs, a well fitted kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher and fridge/freezer.
The main bedroom has an upholstered Super kingsize bed with Vi Spring mattress, high quality duvets and bed linens. The second bedroom has full size bunk beds. Polished wooden floors, Roger Oates runners, sisal flooring and soft Moroccan rugs make up the flooring in the cottage. The bathroom has an over bath shower. Plenty of towels are provided as well as an organic soaps and shampoo range. The bathroom is situated downstairs opposite the kitchen. The ceilings are low, typical for a cottage of this age.
The garden is situated up steps from the cottage, it is probably not easily accessed by anyone disabled or infirm. It is a cottage garden, not highly manicured but with wonderful views in every direction. A table and chairs and a barbecue and tongs are also provided. There is a side access to the garden and it is fenced, so will contain a not overly ambitious dog.

The cottage has a Samsung 32" smart TV with all the catch up services , super fast broad band, a small office with desk. Mobile reception is good, but patchy in the downstairs rooms.
There is a wood burner and kindling/logs for the first night or two (bags of logs and kindling are sold at the shop a few yards from the cottage), iPod dock, smart TV, towels, high quality linen and bathrobes.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all china and cutlery, pans, casserole dishes, salad bowls, a Nespresso coffee maker (with coffee capsules!) and there is a supply of tea bags, coffee, sugar, oil, flour, herbs and salt and pepper to start you off. We always leave a breakfast pack of fresh local bread, home made jam, butter and milk.
A folding guest bed can be put up in the sitting room or master bedroom for a fifth person which is fine for a night or two, but unless a young child, it is not ideally suited for five people.
As with cottages of this age, the ceilings are fairly low so any particularly tall people (over 6ft 4 in) may need to stoop a bit. Please ask us if you need more details on this aspect.

Guest access
The whole cottage and garden is available for your use. There are stunning views from the garden and wonderful walks.

Other things to note
A continental breakfast is always left at the cottage - fresh bread, butter, jam, milk, tea, coffee and sugar.
We have a wonderful deli close to us, Compton MacRae, who sell delicious ready to go meals from their cafe in nearby Semley.

We are surrounded by open countryside, perfect for long walks in all directions. There is an excellent selection of pubs and restaurants to stop off at for lunch or to drop in for drinks and dinner which serve fantastic food using local produce. Below are some of our favourites:

PYTHOUSE WALLED GARDEN, Hatch

THE COMPASSES PUB, Chicksgrove

COMPTON MCRAE - deli and lunch restaurant, Semley SP7

MESSUMS Wiltshire, Tisbury, SP3 6LW

THE BECKFORD ARMS Tisbury, SP3 6PX

BECKFORD BOTTLE SHOP, TISBURY

CHURCH FARM DAIRY, SEMLEY
Fresh whole non-homogenised milk to take away in bottles

There is a folder at the cottage with information on the numerous places there are to visit in the area and further afield.
We can provide a travel cot and a high chair.
We can put up a folding guest bed in the sitting room or master bedroom for a fifth person, but the cottage is ideally suited for four people.

Neighbourhood highlights

The cottage is set in the beautiful village of East Knoyle (birthplace of Sir Christopher Wren) on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, amid rolling scenery. The village has an award winning community shop (a few yards from the cottage) as well as a playground and endless footpaths through fields and woods for dog walking. Sadly our village pub has recently closed - a community pub is being suggested but for now our nearest pubs are the two excellent ones in Hindon, two miles away.
If you wish to explore the West Country there are few better places to be situated. The Georgian city of Bath is 20 miles away, Salisbury 17 miles, the hilltop town of Shaftesbury with it's famous monastery ruins and Gold Hill is 4 miles and the Jurassic coast an hour's drive. Longleat and Centre Parks is only 8 miles away. There are numerous stately homes (Longleat, being the most famous and also Stourhead National Trust), castles and gardens within easy striking distance, some a couple of miles from the cottage and superb gastro pubs and restaurants nearby.
There is plenty of information in the cottage and suggestions of where to visit, where to eat and where to shop.

Just an hour away is the New Forest which is great to explore on foot or by bike. There are maps in the house and you can rent bikes at the wonderfully helpful Forest Leisure Cycling in Burley where there are also loads of cafes, pubs & shops.

Flying Experiences at Compton Abbas Airfield - from flying in vintage aircraft and driving classic cars to the airfield for champagne lunch... and flying lessons.

Dorset Art Weeks: For two weeks every year (Typically end of May & beginning June) Artists all over Dorset open up their homes and studios to visitors to browse their work, learn about their techniques and inspiration and purchase direct from the artists themselves.

There are also two extraordinary contemporary galleries with excellent cafes/restaurants nearby - Messums in Tisbury and Hauser and Wirth in Bruton - both definitely worth a visit.
