About this listing
Beautiful Private Room with Private Bathroom in Georgian Townhouse. Our house still holds many of its original features and the bedroom is no exception with an original fireplace and large west facing window which let in lots of natural light. Guests also have access to their own designer bathroom.
Richard and I love living in this house and want to share that with our guests. The house is a beautiful Georgian townhouse with original floorboards, fireplaces, windows and doors giving the house a really special feel. The house is full of sunlight all day long which makes it a really relaxing place to be. It is also in a conservation area meaning the surrounding area has changed very little since the house was built in the 1830's. The guest bedroom is large with high ceilings and an original fireplace. Free wifi is provided. The bed is a really comfy double bed. The room has a cupboard to the right of the fireplace with hangers and shelves perfect for storage. There is also a desk and chair in the room and a freestanding mirror. The bathroom is in an Art Deco design with a loo, bath and really powerful shower. Guests will have sole use of the bathroom which is located next to their bedroom. Fresh towels will also be supplied.
Guests will have access to their bedroom and bathroom as well as the kitchen and all the appliances. Guests will be provided with their own cupboard and shelf in the fridge to store their food if needed. Free wifi provided.
Interaction with guests
Richard works from home and so is often around to help with any questions and he is also a fountain of knowledge about Colchester so will be very happy to help. I am around in the evenings and love to have a chat with guests over a cup of tea or a glass of prosecco!
Lexden is a beautiful area just outside the town centre. The roads are more like avenues and tree lined with a mix of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture. The house itself is also in a conservation area so little has changed for over 200 years! Hilly Fields is only six minutes walk away and offers beautiful views over the Colne Valley. It is also the site of many pre Roman and Roman archaeological discoveries. Colchester is the oldest recorded town in Britain and the town is steeped in history with a Norman castle in the park, bullet holes in buildings dating from the civil war and Roman artefacts displayed in several of the museums. A new art venue FirstSite is also holding a major Warhol exhibition.
The house is really close to Lexden Road which is used by several bus routes. The house is a 15 minute walk to the town centre and the mainline train station is only 5 mins drive away. The direct train to London takes only 45 minutes.
Other things to note
We have two very friendly cockapoos, Ollie & Wilf, who love new people and really enjoy having guests to stay. They are also hypoallergenic which means they don't malt and shouldn't aggravate any allergies.
Sorry but no parties, no smoking and no pets.
