Bright, spacious and warm house just a minutes walk to the greenway, walking trails, blue flag beach, hotel with leisure centre, fine dining restaurant, and great bar food. Or just grab a book and relax in front of the many windows.
In the evenings, chill out on the large sofa's and select a DVD or box set. We also provide additional reading material (books and magazines) with some toys and boardgames for all to enjoy.
Large windows accentuate the views from the house and enable guests to capture the morning and afternoon sun perfectly. The open plan living space, with separate kitchen area, enables guests to watch over the open area in front of the house (ideal for 4+ year olds!).
The patio area at the front catches the morning sun and we have had many a breakfast on the deck, while the rear garden enables guests to capture the evening sun.
We have recently installed a new gas fire in the sitting area which is really quick to ignite and heats up the space quickly when required. It's remote controlled so you don't even need to move from your pew to start it up! Just be careful if there are small one's up when it is on.
There are three large bedrooms. On the upper floor is a large room with king size bed and three windows (with black out curtains) which offers all day sun and great views of the green space, forest and sea views (beach and clew bay). There is also an en-suite.
On the ground floor is another large double room with super king size bed and a twin room offering two single beds. We can provide a cot and highchair if required. The main bathroom is on the ground floor and offers walk in shower (no bath).
This is our holiday home which we regularly use and so the kitchen is well stocked, and we leave spices, condiments and some dry goods. We've considered locking these away however we feel that guests like to be able to use some of these. Our only request is that you replace with any products used or emptied with equivalent goods.
We also leave books, dvd's, games, magazines, etc, and guests are free to use. If you wish to take a book (any of the fiction books), that's no problem, if you leave another pre-loved book!
Recently we have installed a wi-fi modem within the house which is available for use on a pay-as-you-go basis. Tokens can be bought directly from the house supervisor for €20 for 7.5GB and €10 for 2GB. This is adequate for a few days surfing but not suitable for streaming or movie downloads.
The house is wheelchair accessible however guests should be aware that there is a steep slope entering the estate. The bathroom is fully equipped to Bord Failte wheelchair bathroom standard.
Interaction with guests
Annette meets and greets our guests. She has a very warm, bubbly personality and will be eager to share her local knowledge to guide you to having the best experience in Mulranny, Achill and North West Mayo. We've received wonderful reports from guests on her recommendations for local areas and in particular for kids activities (which may be happening during your stay).
Other things to note
The house is just a two minute walk from the award winning Mulranny Park Hotel. It serves excellent bar food and offers fine dining in the beautiful dining room. Be sure to book a table for a special night in advance as it can be busy during peak holiday season. The views of Clew Bay are spectacular.
Guests can also use the swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and hot tub at the hotel for an additional charge. The reception area at the hotel provide some daily, 10 pass and other special offers, so be sure to enquire at the start of your holiday.
The blue flag beach is just under 10 minutes walk. Cross the road and go down the steps, across the causeway, before arriving at the crystal blue waters. It is well sheltered and the lifeguards are on duty during the summer months. It's just perfect for swimming (wet suit recommended as it is the Atlantic!).
We are just one minute from the Greenway. Bikes can be rented on site, in the recently renovated Railway Station, to cycle the Greenway to Achill or head south towards Westport. The local rental company will advise you best on what direction to cycle based on your ability and group, and can even pick you up in Westport or Achill if you want to cycle just one way (and avoid the wind!).
There are also plenty of wonderful loop cycles locally for more experienced cyclists - head west towards Belmullet; follow the coast along the Currane Pensinsula towards Achill and then loop around Achill before heading for home.
And for the children, they can happily play on the green area in front of the houses, and they often make friends with guests in other houses. There is a wooded area at the back of the houses and this takes you up to Lookout Hill. But plenty of paths and routes for kids to explore as you walk.
With three boys, we love the outdoors and being active. We swim, run, surf, hill walk and bike both in Ireland and when overseas. For downtime, we like to read and watch movies or box sets, and enjoy eating out in local eateries.
