Cessnock is now the gateway to the Hunter Valley wineries, and Coal d’ Vine View is only a five minute drive from Pokolbin & Lovedale Wineries. It has the charm of a country town with all the facilities you need to enjoy your holiday.

Both Pokolbin & Lovedale wineries are a popular wedding destination, and Coal d’Vine View is some of the closest accommodation you’ll find that can suit large groups of guests.

Cessnock is located in the Hunter Valley region which brings with it lots of opportunities to explore the area. There are a lot of speciality stores and producers including wineries, beer brewers, cheese makers, chocolatiers, sweet makers, olive producers, galleries and tea houses as well as public gardens, picnic areas and tours.

While staying with us here at Coal d’Vine View, there are a couple of things we really recommend visiting.

The Hunter Valley Gardens span 25 acres and ten feature gardens. Enjoy exploring the fragrant rose garden, take a rest above the 10 metre high waterfall in the Sunken Garden, check out the views at the lookout, and let the kids (young and old) enjoy the fairy tale characters in the Storybook Garden. With 8 kilometres of walking paths, there is plenty to see and explore.

The gardens host some great events throughout the year, including Snow Time in July where you can experience an icy wonderland of a giant skating rink, a 25 metre ice toboggan and the opportunity to build a snow man in the Snow Play Zone; Christmas Lights with millions of lights on display lighting up the gardens; and school holiday activities for children.

The Hunter Valley Zoo is a great day out for all of the family, and is just 6 kilometres from Coal d’Vine View. With lots of animals to find, interactive walk through area and the option to feed kangaroos, touch a reptile, cuddle a koala and pat a wombat, everyone will love the zoo. Take along a BBQ or picnic, and enjoy a full day out at the Hunter Valley Zoo.

If you’re looking forward to a round of golf while on holidays, there are a number of great courses in the area including Stonebridge, Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club, Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley and The Vintage.

For those a little more adventurous, or looking for a romantic date while on holidays, we recommend booking a hot air balloon flight over the Hunter Valley. There are a number of companies that take flights over the vineyards early in the morning, and it’s a great way to check out the area from another view.

The Hunter Valley Wine Festival runs over two months – May & June – and features more than 70 events. This is a great way to spend a day during these months; you can attend wine making master classes, vineyard tours, wine tastings, join a wine and food trail, cooking classes and more. There are also a range of Chef’s Plates events which let you check out some of the best restaurants in the area at set prices. Other events that happen during the festival include the Lovedale Long Lunch (great when visiting with a large group).

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to stomp in a bucket of grapes? The Cessnock Stomp happens in April every year; it’s a free event for all the family (you can take part in the stomping but there is limited places) and you can help us celebrate our local wineries and food producers.

In October 2016, Jazz in the Vines celebrates its last event and it’s something you can’t miss. Book now to see greats like James Morrison, Leo Sayer, Mental as Anything and more.

Pokolbin is the home over 10 concerts each year including Day on the Green featuring popular artists you’ll know from growing up. Concerts are held at Hope Estate, Bimbadgen, Tempus Two and Hunter Valley Gardens. At less than a 10 minute drive from your accommodation this is a great way to enjoy a day with your partner, family or friends – order a picnic hamper and wine, and sing and dance to your favourite tunes. There is a local shuttle bus that can pick you up and drop you off at designated points meaning you don’t need to worry about driving.

If you are looking for something different while on holidays to the area, in early October Opera in the Vineyard returns. It’s a great way to celebrate some of our local food and wine while enjoying some of the top Opera performers.

Throughout the year, the Cessnock Performing Arts Centre hosts some great shows and performances. Once you’ve booked with us here at Coal d’Vine View, make sure you check out what performances are on during your holidays.

Cessnock has the benefit of being close to a number of Hunter Valley towns, and there are a few we really recommend checking out.

Wollombi Valley is a great day out, and is a great way to get off the highway on your way to Coal d’Vine View. When driving from Sydney, take Route 33 Tourist Drive via Calga/Peats Ridge from the Sydney Expressway. This will take you through the township of Bucketty and then following the old 1840’s convict built route to historic Wollombi Village. Continue on Wollombi Road, through state forest, to Cessnock.

If it’s wineries you are after, a day trip to the Broke Fordwich region is sure to help. The region is home to over 10 cellar doors and a large number of restaurants and dining options. The area also produces some of the best fruit in the Hunter region, so make sure you visit some of the many farm gates selling fresh produce.

Just over an hour away you’ll find the towns of Nelson Bay, Salamander Bay and Shoal Bay where you can discover over 20 beaches, swim, snorkel, dive, whale watch and more. You can also bush walk in Tomaree National Park, and enjoy the local restaurants and cafes.

It is only expected that when in the Hunter Valley you’ll have plenty of options to get out and discover the produce and wines grown and made in the area.

There’s a couple of towns we really recommend visiting, both for their wines and their historic sites:

• Broke – wineries known for their Semillon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Verdelho, Sangivese, Barbera and Dolcetto.
• Lovedale
• Maitland – fruit wines made from local produce, Steam Fest and Groovin the Moo
• Morpeth – Visit the historic shop fronts, wharves and hitching posts as well as Morpeth Wine Sellers and Moonshine Distillery
• Paterson – historic town of the Barrington Tops. Visit Tocal Homestead, Barrington Tops National Park or a self-guided walk of the mid 19th century sites
• Pokolbin – home to some of our most well-known wine labels and gourmet food
• Singleton – Royal Australia Infantry Corps Museum, Yengo, Mt Royal and Wollemi National Parks, self-guided walk through the historic precinct
• Wollombi – national parks with walking trails, lookouts and Aboriginal rock carvings including Devils Rock, Flat Rock Lookout and Finchley Trig.

Cessnock is a great base for your Hunter Valley holiday. Close to wineries and with gourmet foods, historic sites and walking trails galore, you’ll enjoy being close to everything at Coal d’Vine View.

Interaction with guests

My wife (Hilary) and I (David) Harris the owners we live on Ground Floor with totally separate facilities. You have exclusive use of First Floor with separate facilities. Only thing shared is laundry, back yard and swimming pool. We do not use swimming pool while guests are staying unless if you go out. We may bump into you in back yard or front when we are going out to our car on the street. We are available when needed. We respect your privacy but if you want to socialise we are available. Just let us know re: privacy.

Other things to note

- There is room for 2 cars parking off-road in driveway. Extra cars have to be parked on street
- Linen is provided both bath and pool towels as well

Standard Terms and Conditions of Temporary Holiday Accommodation:

Note: Variances can be agreed on but only by arrangement with the owner in writing.

Full Tariff i.e. 100% is required to secure the booking. Payment of the rental deposit constitutes the clients acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.

Cancellation if caused by the client, money paid is refundable in full if 5 days notice is given prior to check-in date. If less than 5 days notice then there will be $150.00 cancellation fee unless the house is re-let for the entire period.

The owners will make every effort to ensure the property is available as booked. However the owners reserve the right to make alterations to bookings due to unforeseen circumstances.

To maintain a good standard for our guests we require certain conditions to be complied with. We appreciate most will respect our property but the occasional abuse requires that we state the following conditions.

Number of Guests should not exceed the number stated on the Confirmation Notice or subsequently agreed in writing or email. Fees will apply for excess guests not agreed with the owners in advance.

Parties and Functions are strictly prohibited. The price charged is for domestic use only and not commercial. Accordingly this rate does not allow for the extra wear associated with functions in terms of cleaning, garbage removal, wear and tear, repairs etc. Use contrary to this may result in additional payments.

Damage, Breakages, Theft and Loss are the tenants responsibility during their stay.

Departure - the property should be left in a similar state to its condition on arrival. Check-out time is 10 am by the latest, to allow time to prepare property for next guests. Unless if agreed in writing by the owner.

Disturbance to our neighbours, including excessive noise, is prohibited and may result in termination of rental and loss of bond. No partying after 10 pm in pool area unless quiet. Respecting neighbours.

Linen is to be supplied by host including bath and pool towels

Pets are not allowed

Loss - the owners take no responsibility for the tenant's personal property

Variations to these conditions may only be made by prior arrangements with the owner in writing

We stayed here for two nights and had a great stay! Lovely house in a great location. The facilities were great and we very much enjoyed the pool and BBQ area. Great value for money and we would definitely stay here again.

Had a great 3 day stay here whilst visiting for a wedding. Excellent detailed information provided before our arrival and the house was clean and well equipped for cooking. The pool is big and was very 'crisp' after 1C overnight temperatures but we still jumped in! Thank you

We pride ourselves on detailed emails: Information and FAQ, links to sites, WiFi, Hunter Valley Garden tickets and golf. Obviously not all essential to all guests but they are there if interested. Our pool is huge for a group with great shallow end for kids. Keen to swim in Winter but fantastic for later Spring, Summer and early Autumn.

David and Hilary's place was located very close to central Cessnock minutes drive from the Main Street with Aldi, Woolworths and Coles and an easy walk to some local restaurants which we utilised after spending a day at a winery tour. It's a older building which can be seen in the style of architecture but heaps of space.
