About this listing

Come enjoy a peaceful stay at our 2 bedroom, log inspired guest house. Full bed downstairs and queen in loft bedroom. Spend a relaxing evening around the firepit or in the shade in a hammock, listening to nature as it reveals itself.

The space

We built this custom house from timber off our wooded property. The logs you will find inside were hand peeled and milled on site. One bedroom is downstairs the other is a loft bedroom. You can enjoy several big game hunting trophies on display as well.

Guest access

You will have access to a firepit and seating. A nice double hammock under our pine trees and a delightful screen porch overlooking the fishing pond. There is a quaint little grocery store and deli, as well as a small restaurant 5 minutes away. If you would like to try fishing, we have some basic fishing gear to catch and release bass and perch. Kayaks are available to paddle around. Cedar Grove, which is a nice access to the Current River, is about 15 minutes down the road. If you would like to try floating the river, there are two canoe outfitters within 35 minutes....Jadwin Canoe Rental and Akers Ferry Canoe Rental, they both have websites you can check out and make reservations is you wish. Montauk State Trout Hatchery is available as well, it is about 45 minutes away. If you just want to hang around the cabin we have horseshoes and other outside and indoor games. A Walmart Super Center is in Houston.....10 minutes away for supplies. If you like to BBQ, there is a charcoal grill to use.....just bring some charcoal.

Interaction with guests

We respect your privacy, but will be happy to help in anyway. Our home is near the guest house.

Other things to note

We have cattle on the property that you will see, sometimes they are on the driveway....just honk and they will move....lol....yes, you are in the country. If you like to bird watch....we have lots of migrating birds that come through in the spring and fall. Also, there are a large variety of birds that visit our feeders.

This is a wonderful place to experience the country side and have life slow down for a moment. It it secluded but still close to town (about 10 minutes). Karen and Bob are splendid hosts and are so accommodating. Despite all the thunderstorms and rain during our stay, it was beautiful and inspiring to see Mother Nature at work. They provided tea, coffee, snacks. There was also a nice selection of games, such as trivia, checkers, puzzles, cards, and darts! We must come back so we can properly experience the outdoors and fish without all the storms. Thank you again Karen and Bob for a wonderful weekend!

Delightful From Start to Finish! You won't need to 'pack up the house' for this one. It's clean and if needed the cleaning supplies are right at hand. The ambiance is enthralling - relaxing & romantic with a touch of Africa in the decor. This beautiful cabin was built by Bob & Karen and the attention to detail in the craftsmanship is worthy of mention. Lots of closet & dresser space with enough room to stretch out a bit. This is nothing like the 'hotel-like experience' we were expecting. A room or two and a meal? This is not that! It's closer to a home away from home. There's games to play, movies to watch, fishing poles and tackle. Coffee, tea, fresh fruit and bottled water- did I mention the S'mores kit- (for those nights around the fire pit )? We didn't need it, but we did come across the child gate (top shelf in the main-floor bedroom closet. The large screened-in porch is perfect for watching sunrises and sunsets, eating meals, (large table & 4 comfy chairs, 2 rocking chairs and a chair swing) listening to nature, playing a game or two (they have Up-Words, jigsaw puzzles, cards & Yahtzee ) enjoying a meal or just doing nothing for a change of pace. The kitchen is fully functional - 4 burner electric stove, microwave and mini fridge. Cooking utensils, paper plates, coffee/tea mugs, disposable 'silverware'. Heating & air conditioning can be easily adjusted to accommodate your preferences. There is a horseshoe pit, a very inviting hammock and a swing chair in the yard. The very large pond is stocked with Large Mouth Bass, and Blue Gill (catch & release), and I believe a few Red Ear, so good fishing days are pretty plentiful! Bob is a Master fisherman - I think he caught about 20 all by himself while my husband & I caught 6 between the two of us. Bob was gracious enough to tell us what tackle he was catching with - he knows his fish and his pond! Some things you may want to make sure you pack - an umbrella & mud shoes/boots- a stroll around the pond/yard would be nice in a summer rain -We won't forget ours next time! and beleive me - we WILL be going back for more of that great hospitality, and southern comfort! Thanks Karen & Bob - it really was AMAZING!!! Christine & David Currie

We had a great time on our visit to The Little Cabin In The Woods! Perfect for a little getaway. The cabin was amazing and set up with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed everything from fishing in your pond to relaxing by a nice campfire. Karen and her husband seem like very genuine people and we will definitely be coming back for another visit sometime soon!

This place is AMAZING! Karen and Bob are wonderful hosts. You can tell that they have thought of every detail in the cabin. They even provide drinks and snacks for breakfast! This is a great getaway for people that love to get away from all the hustle and bustle of life. We have visited twice and plan on many more visits!

We stayed at the Little Cabin in the Woods over Thanksgiving as we visited family in the area. It was a perfect location for us as it was just down the road from where our family lives. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Communication with the host was timely. The grounds around the cabin are beautiful and serene. It was so nice waking up each morning to look out the window at the small pond they have there. We accidentally left a pair of jeans in the cabin, and the host was so kind to meet our relatives in town to get them returned to us. Can definitely recommend without hesitation.

Where do I start?!?!? This place is the hidden gem of the Ozarks. Between the warm hosts and gorgeous cabin, the Little Cabin in the Woods is truly a slice of heaven. You will fall in love with this place before you even enter the front door. If you look up "cabin" in the dictionary, a picture of this stunning place should be next to it. I can't wait to come back next year and for many years to come.

We truly enjoyed our weekend away at Karen's charming cabin. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet Karen, but her husband Bob was around and he was a very gracious and friendly host. I would recommend this to anyone looking to truly get away.

Karen User ProfileKaren is a superhost.

Hi! I am a retired elementary school teacher and literacy coach. I'm passionate about the importance of, and promotion of early literacy. I enjoy reading, gardening, living the country life and spending time with my beautiful grandchildren and their parents. My husband and I travel from time to time, when we can get away from the farm. We enjoyed spending some time in South Africa and Zimbabwe.

As a host I try to be sensitive to what kind of interaction my guests are comfortable with. I'm comfortable with showing you the space and being there for your convenience at your request. However, I'm also just as comfortable sitting around the campfire in the evening, roasting marshmallows and chatting.
