Self check-in

Check yourself in with the keypad.
Come and enjoy the peace and seclusion of our Stable Hideaway.
Entered through the original stable door, and still featuring the wooden hay racks in the wall, this self-contained space is ideal for those seeking a quiet stay in the depths of the Lake DIstrict.
With views across the tarn and footpaths up onto the fells from the door, this is a special place, ideal for walkers, cyclists, artists, anglers and anyone who loves the countryside.

The space
The Stable Hideaway is a one room retreat located in what was the stable of this Lakeland farm. It has it's own entrance and is a spacious room with double bed, dining table and seating. Outside there is a nearby sunken garden with firepit where you can sit and chill or BBQ.
The room is equipped with a microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and crockery. We provide bedding and towels.

Bottled water is provided in the room and the shower/toilet facilities are a short walk across the garden in an old potting shed. There is a shower, basin, toilet and electric towel rail. We provide a torch! Although a lovely wander across the garden on a summer's evening, sometimes it's dark and/or raining...something to bear in mind before booking.

We live in the adjacent farmhouse, so are on hand to answer any questions and solve problems if they arise.

Although no longer a working farm, there is plenty of farming activity in the adjacent fields. It is a short walk to the tarn where you can fish, with a license from the village. There are fantastic walks from the front door, including the Kentmere Horseshoe for the ambitious.

We are 3.5 miles from Staveley, which has a lively pub, artisan bakery, cafes and a Spar, as well as one of the largest bike shops in the country!

We are 8 miles from Bowness on Windemere and, in the other direction, from Kendal.

Kentmere is a secluded and hidden gem of a valley and a perfect springboard for exploring all that the Lake District has to offer.

Guest access
You will have sole use of the Stable Hideaway and, the shower/toilet facilities in the Old Potting Shed.

You can sit outside in the area in front of the Stable Hideaway and are welcome to use the nearby sunken garden and firepit if you would like.

Other things to note
Kentmere is a hidden valley steeped in history. Two Viking boats were dug up in the mere opposite the house, there are several Ancient British sites in the area, and the remains of the Roman road known as High Street runs along the top of the fells at the head of the valley.

The Stable Hideaway is on the site of Long House Studios, a small independent art school which runs courses and classes for adults and young people in the Garden Studio. You can find out more on the Long House Studios website.
