Flexible accommodation, great for one or two couples ready for a short trip or longer break, for holidays or house-hunting.
Our home is set in beautiful countryside, we offer bed & breakfast accommodation in a private apartment over two floors, two comfortable rooms with tea/coffee tray, and our price includes a good continental breakfast. Evening meals available on request.
Great location for visits to Cognac, Bordeaux, Angouleme, St Emilion, Dordogne, the coast....or just relax!

The space

Welcome to our home, an ancient former barn with open beams, and views over beautiful countryside toward the old village of Yviers.

South Charente is blessed with one of the highest average hours of sun in France, and is a great place just to relax, or explore the area on foot, cycle or car amongst the vines, fields, and woodlands of this rural landscape.

Our accommodation comprises a first floor private lounge and dining area overlooking the pool, and two comfortable bedrooms, a first floor double overlooking open countryside with en-suite bathroom (bath, wc & basin), and a ground floor double overlooking the pool, with separate shower room (shower, wc & basin). All rooms are timber boarded or tiled.

As usual with bed & breakfast accommodation, we provide towels, bedding, essential toiletries, and a continental breakfast, and you can arrange an evening meal (24 hrs notice please).

Tea and coffee making facilities are available in bedrooms, and the dining area includes a kitchenette with sink, two hobs, fridge and microwave.

Outside, we have poolside recliners, and in season we open our pool daily for us to share with you. The pool is 10m x 5m, and a constant depth of 1.5m (no shallow or diving areas). Pool is heated, average 25 - 28 deg C.

Our location on the Charente and Dordogne border gives us access to the best of France throughout the year, its food, wine, culture, lifestyle, sightseeing, history, museums, sunshine....just explore, or take a few of our recommendations, including several UNESCO* world heritage sites...
- Aubeterre sur Dronne, historic and beautiful town with roots back
before the Romans, an 800 year-old subterranean church* (one of
only two in Europe), river with canoe/kayak hire.
- Bordeaux, famous port waterfront buildings*, sinister U-boat pens, wine
house centre, museums, historic old town, cathedrals. Restaurants
operated by Gordon Ramsey and Philip Etchebest.
- St Emilion*, centre of red wine production, many wine dealers and craft
shops and market-place restaurants within historic old town, containing
the only other subterranean church in Europe.
- Blaye, 17th-18th cent citadel* protecting river from the English,
designed by military architect Vauban. Includes fortifications, craft
shops, restaurants (try The Citadel, tables overlooking the estuary).
Angouleme, department walled city, wide range of shops, historic quarter with cathedral, bars, restaurants and nightlife. Creative centre for satirical and humourous cartoons, and home to the "circuit des remparts", an annual historic car race. Also home to the Museum of the Resistance.
Cognac, town and region, centre of cognac production and trade including historic old town, thriving shops and restaurants, and visits to the cognac chais.
Jonzac, market and spa town with impressive old centre, and modern spa complex with thermal pools.
Charente is one of the original 83 departments created in 1790 during the French revolution. With roots as part of the former Aquitaine, the area reflects the influence of past turmoil, conflicts within Plantagenet dynasties of the middle ages, hundred years war, wars of religion, and many towns and villages contain historic buildings varying from fortified churches and smallholdings through to grander chateau.
Fauna and flora abound, we often see deer, hare, buzzard, boar around, and with no street lighting, the night sky is lit by a million stars..
And I could go on but better not...

If you want to spend a lovely, restful few days in the Charente region of France then look no further. Staying with Carole & Ian was an absolute pleasure. The accomodation is superb, spotlessly clean and has everything you could possibly need. Carole's continental breakfasts with home made jams, and cakes are wonderful and very filling! Just right for a day exploring the area. Carole and Ian also gave us very good tips on places to visit and made bookings for us too, as well as providing directions. Ben & Molly, their border collies, are an added bonus and are great companions while lazing round the pool. We will definately visit again.

We only had four full days with Ian and Carol, but we had the best family holiday ever! Our 5-year-old daughter was in the pool for most of it, or playing with the sweet doggies. The breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, with homemade cakes and jams and local produce, and the self contained apartment in one end of the house was spacious, clean and very well equipped. Carol and Ian are the most welcoming and lovely people! Thank you, we had a wonderful holiday! xx

Carol and Ian went above and beyond to provide us with everything we needed for a relaxing stay at their beautiful property. Nothing was too much trouble; from recommendations for places to visit and eat to providing a meal at the 11th hour when we found restaurants had closed for the day. They welcomed us with drinks and a chat and waved us off at the end. The accommodation was lovely; clean and tidy and everything provided that we needed. A five star experience of a B&B in France.

Carol and Ian are fabulous hosts. The accommodation provided is fantastic. Whilst we were only there for a short stay, it is an incredibly relaxing place to be. Idyllic setting with all of the beautiful sunflower fields and peace and quiet. The breakfast that was available was second to none! We have been talking about it since we left. We very much hope to come back for a longer stay in the future. Just to summarise, we cannot recommend this amazing air bnb and the wonderful couple (and pooches) that run it enough

Very well appointed accommodation ideal for a family, including a kitchen, dining area and a box room ideal to allow the children to have their own room. Carol and Ian are very warm, friendly hosts who were always willing to go the extra mile for their guests. A tasty breakfast of local produce, a warm swimming pool and an epic games room of which we made extensive use. Recommended.

What an absolute find - located in beautiful French countryside Carol and Ian's stunning barn is surrounded by sunflower fields and vineyards - what more could you want? Well how about home baked goods and a continental breakfast fit for royalty everyday, Pineau Des Cherantes (cognac/wine aperitif) and nibbles on arrival, two playful puppies, a heated swimming pool (enjoyable in the rain too) and locally sourced cheese, melon and much, much more. Our stay was so comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. Even with the three days of rain we had that didn't dampen our experience. Carol and Ian know the area so well and were able to recommend places to visit and eat nearby which added to the fantastic experience! A 10/10 stay and we'll definitely visit again!

This beautiful apartment is a lovely place to say, with lots of room and great view. Both the dogs are lovely and gentle and will play catch with you for hour if you let them. As english people knowing little french they were very helpful in making reservations for us during our stay. Highlights being the homemade continental breakfast each morning, the restraints in the area and the dogs!
