Description

The space

This two bedroom unit is completely separate from the main house. It has its own kitchen, dining room, living room, and bathroom. If you only book one room then you may have to share the kitchen/living space with another guest. If you take the whole unit ($250) then you have access to both rooms and a couch that converts to a bed in living room. We provide linens, towels and the kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking needs. If you'd like the entire unit please let us know and we can send a modified price for both bedrooms and the entire space. Let us know in advance if you'd like us to place continental breakfast fare for you in the unit ($10 per person per day). Include coffee, tea, juice, greek yogurt, granola, fruit, and whatever we've recently baked.

Guest access

Guest unit entrance can be accessed by the path on the left to the back of the home.

Interaction with guests

Although we live upstairs, we welcome you to come visit us. We love sharing information and resources and if you'd like us to prepare you breakfast, we would be happy to do so if given advance notice and for $10 per person.

The neighbourhood

If coming in winter, downhill and cross country skiing is minutes away. In summer, fishing, biking and hiking are abundant. There is natural beauty all around with gorgeous snow capped mountains and hanging glaciers, rivers and streams, tall spruce and hemlock trees and wildflowers in the summer.

Getting around

There is a shuttle called the Glacier Valley Transit that you can take within town, but a car is good to have getting to other points of interest between Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula, Seward, Homer, Prince William Sound, etc which Girdwood is en route to.

Other things to note

Girdwood is 35 miles from Anchorage and the drive south along Turnagain arm on the Seward Highway is beautiful. Keep your eyes out for Dall Sheep grazing on the cliffs and beluga whales in the Turnagain arm. There are many places to stop and view or hike.

Although we don't currently have a washer/dryer in the unit, if you book the space for more than four days we are happy to arrange access to the main house washer/dryer.

Jodi greeted us within a few minutes of arrival and gave us some basic details of our space for the night as well as some great suggestions regarding restaurants in the area. The place was spacious enough for 4 adults and 1 child and it was nice to have a dining area for us all to eat around. Had a great stay and would recommend to anyone staying in Girdwood.

Jodi and Eric were absolutely terrific. We arrived late in the afternoon and were welcomed by Jodi! They even invited us up for dinner after our long drive. They were very informative on hikes to do and places to eat! They took the time to chat when available and were very welcoming to our pet, Elli!

We passed almost like ships in the night, with us arriving well past midnight, and leaving hours later in the late morning. But what wonderful, warm, engaging, and hospitable ships are Jodi and Eric. And their place is fantastic -- the kind you wish you could stay at for many more days. The Girdwood/Alyeska area is gorgeous. Jodi and Eric's recommendations were spot on. A wonderful visit all around. We're still trying to figure out how to give 6 stars, and will come back and update this reference once we figure that out.

Jodi was a very sweet and welcoming host, she made sure we knew where everything was. Her family and her live right above the rental apartment so she is available of you need anything but in not way intrusive. The house is on the hillside of Max's but still very convenient to get to the resort or downtown. We rented for a wedding and had some last minute friends need a place to stay, Jodi was patient with us while we figured it all out. Beautiful home in a gorgeous Forrest!

Run a nonprofit that provides education in Asia, My husband, Eric is an internet marketing expert and website design/developer. We like to be outdoors, learning, cooking, live music, and our community. We love to travel and have lived and worked extensively overseas. We enjoy meeting people. Hoping to have our own B&B someday and thought this would be the perfect first step and a great way to save a little college funds for our daughter! :)
