The neighbourhood

Danu House is located on Valentia Island, a unique "get away from it all", island off the Kerry coast. Valentia is on the Wild Atlantic Way where rugged beauty abounds. You can get a boat trip to the UNESCO world heritage site The Skelligs Rock, where the most recent Star Wars was filmed. As part of the Kerry Dark Skies Reserve we have unique sky quality with vivid constellations and unspoilt darkness.
Valentia is steeped in history: home of the Transatlantic Cable linking Europe to Nth. America. Tetrapod track way, going back millions of years. Glanleam House and subtropical gardens, original home of the Knight of Kerry. Nearby we have ring forts and castles dating back to the 1400's.
There are ample walking options, water-sports, sailing, surfing, horse riding, renowned dive sites. More gentle pursuits are boat trips, bird watching, or sitting in one of our local cafes or pubs watching the world go by. There are various festivals and community events across the summer: Valentia Triathlon, Scallop Festival, Valentia Regatta, Cahersiveen Music Festival,
Valentia has a varied landscape from the rugged bogs and cliffs in the west to the golden sands of Glanleam Beach to the east. Knightstown (2 mls away), our largest village offers coffee shops, bars, hotel and restaurant. Restaurants serve high quality locally sourced food, people travel to sample our seafood.
In under 2 hrs are Kenmare (Seafari), Killarney/Tralee/ Dingle. Sandy beaches and golf courses all within 20mins drive.

The host was truly remarkable. In spite in the long lines to get a spot on the small boats plying the strait to Skelli Michael, the host was able to get us on to one of our greatest travel experiences. We were able to tour this magnificent UNESCO world heritage island as one of the lucky 100 on July 15. In addition the host followed up our long drive to the southwestern tip of Ireland in spite of the fact that we had misscalculated the time the driving would take so we arrived shortly before midnight. The Irish breakfast, the place and the follow up during our stay could not have been better. A great big thanks to Karen and Rebecca for being the perfect hosts for us! And again sorry for the late arrival!

We had a very enjoyable stay. Both Karen and Derarca were very welcoming and we had many cups of tea during the two days we stayed with them. Their house is gorgeous, very comfortable and a very relaxing place to spend time. Karen organised a trip to Skellig Michael for me at very short notice and also accommodated my mother by inviting her to stay in their house while I was on the trip and dropped her to the ferry. I would recommend that anybody who visits Valencia Island (which is gorgeous) to stay here.

I had a fantastic time staying in Danu House. The setting was beautiful and the house amazing. The hosts Karen and Derarca were so lovely and attentive. They couldn't have been nicer. They helped me explore Valentia Island and get a boat out to visit Skellig Micheal. They were exceptional hosts and I'm hoping to return in the future. Rebecca

We are a mother and daughter team, who feel very lucky to live in this incredible part of the world. We are widely travelled but call Valentia home.
