Mangolay is back! We survived a very close call with the lava, as it spilled over the hill behind us, and came within 1/4 mile of the house. As a result however, Highway 132 no longer reaches us. You must now come along the newly paved Government Beach Road along the coast. It is only one lane, so drive with Aloha please. It is one of the most beautiful drives on the island now, coming through lush jungle, and the burial grounds. We lost our hot pond, and tide pools for snorkeling to the eruption, but we now have a brand new black sand beach nearby. It is a one mile hike, but well worth it. It is said we have up to 5 more beaches as well, but until the lava is completely cooled, there are no trails to them yet. I share the property with 2 dogs. Felicia who is very friendly, and Tulu puppy who is only one year old, and very shy. The house was designed by the late Dennis Preston Davis, an architect specializing in solar powered homes. I am an avid gardener and have a large collection of tropical plants. I have traveled the world extensively, experiencing its diverse cultures and natural wonders, and it is reflected in my home. Mangolay features a large collection of unique art and crafts from around the world. I enjoy living in Hawaii and sharing experiences and recommendations with the guests. Meeting new people and sharing conversations is very rewarding, especially when you live in a remote place. It now takes about 30 minutes to get to Pahoa Town.

During your stay
I like to personally welcome you on your arrival, and invite you to join me at day's end on the lanai for a glass of beer or wine, or kava if you like.
