The space

Hi! Welcome to an opportunity to stay in a unique historic Philadelphia home. We are listing for a short time while between tenants, and would consider long term rentals. Please email to discuss.

Come enjoy a piece of Philadelphia history in a 200 year-old Trinity row home! Trinities, also known as "father, son, and holy ghost" houses, were small homes used by the working class craftsman of the era. Built in 1806, the house has three small floors connected by a spiral stair case and faces a charming Philadelphia side street.

Located in the Washington Square West neighborhood (the Gayborhood!) , it is within easy walking distance of the center city restaurants, theaters, and South Street. Historic sights such as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are only six blocks away. It is also within walking distance of the local subways around town and the regional rail lines going to Philadelphia Airport and the suburbs. Parking is available in several nearby parking decks. There is lots of mass transit, and cabs can be hailed right from the street.

This tiny but cozy house is perfectly sized for a couple, but can sleep up to four. Clean and simply furnished (no frilly beds here), the house has three floors. The first floor is a fully equipped kitchen. The backdoor leads to a private backyard garden perfect for enjoying morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. The second floor has the bedroom and bathroom, and the third floor living room has a comfortable futon couch that folds down into an additional bed. Kids are thrilled with the living room loft.

Some neighborhood amenities include Segar Park and playground one block away, two grocery stores (Whole Foods and Acme) 3 blocks away, and a community garden practically in the back yard. If you have a car, a nearby parking deck charges $20 for 24 hours.

Lastly, the house is a part of Philadelphia music history as the former home of the music duo Hall and Oates!

The house has recently installed central air and heat. A washer and dryer are available in the basement for your use. Towels and linens supplied. In-house Internet wireless is free with limited speed. The house is within range of a higher speed Xfinity hot spot for subscribers.

Please note that the spiral staircase is narrow and steep and may not be suitable for small children, elderly, or disabled persons. Please read the house rules before making a reservation.

There is no smoking in the house or backyard.

Do be respectful of my neighbors by not having any parties and making any loud or excessive noise, especially after 10 pm.

Please let me know if you need to use the futon bed and I will set it up for you. It may be difficult to set up and will break if not set up correctly.

Please be careful on the spiral staircase. Walk on the wider side of the stair and use the handrail.

If you are here on Tuesday, please put trash and recycling out on the front sidewalk in the evening for Wednesday morning pickup. On holiday weekends trash and recycling is picked up on Thursday morning.

Please tidy up the house and do any dishes before before checking out. We will take care of cleaning, laundry, and trash.

I use an older internet router which works well but apparently has some age-related bugs, such as problems sending Iphone email. I apologize if you experience any inconvenience.

Please call or text with any questions or problems.
Thanks for your help!

This charming little house was an absolute joy to stay in, we only stayed 3 nights but would have loved to stay longer. The location is perfect, walking distance to everything which suited us as we did not have a car. Checking in and checking was so easy and it was lovely to meet Pat who popped round to make sure we had checked in ok.

For anyone visiting Philly for historic sight seeing, Patrick's house is perfectly located for walking through the Washington Square, Society Hill, and Old City neighborhoods. We visited with our 2 boys and they really enjoyed the historical and human scale charm of the house and the special, narrow roadways surrounding it. Patrick was right on top of all communications and was very helpful in general. Highly recommended.

Patrick's place is fantastic! We really enjoyed our stay. It's a fun little house in a really great neighborhood that is centrally located and walkable to nearly all the major tourist sites. Patrick really went the extra mile to be friendly and hospitable; he's very responsive, and we appreciated the small touches, like leaving some breakfast foods in in the fridge for us on arrival and parking coupons in the mail. One minor note is that the house is very narrow with a winding staircase, so would not be good for people with mobility issues or for groups larger than three I would say. For two people, it was the perfect size.

I came to Philly for a conference and was very pleased with Patrick's home. The location was in a perfect place, walking distance to the convention center, restaurants, shops, and markets. The stairs inside were a bit intimidating but overall it was a very charming place to stay.

Patrick is an excellent host. He reached out prior to our arrival with thorough directions to the house, provided a list of nearby grocery stores, and recommended a few streets to check out for restaurants and bars. We loved the house and neighborhood, and would certainly stay at Patrick's place again.

Patrick's place was great for us and our dog. He was very welcoming and the location is great. Being our first time in Philly, it was walking distance to all the major sites and a ton of cute little restaurants.

We enjoyed our stay in the heart of philly very much! It was an easy walk to coffee shops, restaurants, whole foods and the historic city center. The apartment is cute and perfect for two people. As a bonus, we got to see the Mummers parade on New Year's Day.

Hi, my name is Pat and this is my wife, Jean. I love Philly, having moved here in 1989 to go to school and ended up staying 25 years! I work as a research scientist for NJ Health Dept, and do lots of volunteer work for an adaptive sports program for the disabled. Jean works at a local hospital, we were married after meeting in the neighborhood we live in- yes, i married the girl next door! I listed the trinity I own until we got a long-term renter, which is the source of our reviews. We are now Airbnb guests and have decided to host our house for the times when we travel. It is only a half block from my old house, so the reviews still apply. We hope to hear from you soon!
