Interaction with guests

I live up here alone. I paint, read, study and meditate. I am most often available for talking, listening to music, watching a movie, directions, tips of where to go depending on who is going, what you like to do and who you like to do it with. I have traveled for the last 25 years and am very comfortable talking with people from all over the world and different walks of life.

The neighbourhood

A very quiet and Rural Neighborhood. Large Amounts of Undeveloped Land for hundred's of miles to the North East. Just Beautiful. This is the Southern California High Desert.

I will Give you Directions. But please, you should use an offline version of G Maps as well (or another hard copy of a map) as it will be very useful.

**Also very important to note: There are no street lamps out here away from town. At night the roads will be dark and street signs hard to see. This is a small rural town and I live off a dirt road. The Roads here are maintained by the county, so the drivability in an average commuter vehicle is easy and safe. Just drive carefully.

**As soon as the sun goes down, everything looks different. Try to arrive before sunset. Please carry a flashlight with you as well.

We have 4 distinct seasons here. Mostly Lots of Beautiful Sunshine. Summer is very hot during the day (90's-100's Fahrenheit) and cooler in the evening (mid to upper 70's Fahrenheit). Autumn is warm during the day (70-80's F) and cooler in the evening (40-60's F). Winter is cold during the day (mid to upper 50's F) and colder at night (20-30's F). Spring gets warmer during the day (mid to upper 70's F) during the day and cooler at night (mid 50's F).

**These Temperatures are Only Estimates**

This is a Natural Desert. There are rabbits, little critters, snakes and scorpions. As in any Natural Preserve or National Park Area, be mindful of other living entities. Just look where you're going and use common sense.

Getting around

You can park your vehicles on my property. We are 4 miles from the bus that run M-F. We are 13 miles from town. You are a 15 minute drive to Joshua Tree National Park Entrance Gate. There are 2 markets (Heroes and Dollar Tree), a Mini-Mart (Hallidays Liquor), Gas Station (Mobile) and a bar (Landers Brew) and Restaurants (Heroes & $5 Pizza Place) 7-12 miles from my home. In town (Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley), it seems like it's growing all the time with a Oriental Buffet Restaurant, Pizza, Sushi, and a handful of diners and Bars that serve food too (Prices range from low to moderate to expensive). There are also Food markets ( Vons, Stater Bros.,Food 4 Less), Pharmacies (Wallgreens, Rite-Aid), a Big 5 sporting Goods and even a Wallmart.

Other things to note

Fire Wood Available. $10 & $5 Bundles Available. Can be Added to your reservation prior to arrival and refunded if not used, no need to pay cash; for your convenience. Cash is also gladly accepted.

We reserved our stay last minute and he was extremely kind and helpful. He had a lot of insight into the nature of desert and even gave us a small tour to show us some flowers and vegetation. The house is very clean and inviting. The view is beautiful as well... If it says windy make sure to be prepared since it is in a flat part of the desert and with almost no cover the wind builds up. Other than that, thank you Shayma for a great experience! Hopefully we'll meet again.

Shyama's place is in a scenic desert location surrounded by mountains and under thousands of stars. Sitting near the fire and sharing food, drinks and stories with him and the other guests was a perfect way to stay warm during that cold night. We had the most wonderful time there with the most interesting host ! thanks Shyama, see you next time I'm in Joshua Tree !

Shyama is a kind, gracious host that's knowledgeable about many things. Our stay at Shyama's home was more than just the camping trip we expected it to be, thanks to everything he offered and his friendship. If you're thinking of camping in the area, I hope you seriously consider a stay with Shyama!

Shyama was an amazing host and his spot was a perfect welcome to the desert and Joshua Tree. From the moment we drove on to his property at 11pm (booked just hours before), he greeted us with incredible warmth and hospitality. Like others shared, he stayed up to help us set up our tent, aligned just right to deal with the desert winds. His warmth and care for all of his guests created a lovely atmosphere for everyone staying on the property. There were four groups or so staying the night we arrived -- our tents were spread far apart with plenty of privacy, but there was a fire pit for everyone to hang by. I wish I could have spent another night and taken Shyama up on his offer to check out the local moose lodge, one of many on his list of recommendations of local spots/attractions to check out. I hope to make it back again, thank you, Shyama!

Shyama Chandra User ProfileShyama Chandra is a superhost.

I am a very spiritual person. I love nature, I love rock and roll music, I love to read and meditate. I am a 3rd generation American born artist and I love to speak about The Lord of the Universe Philosophy and Mother Nature. I love my Guru Maharaja and have a beautiful and auspicious relationship with my Vrndavana Mom. I love the Movie Star Wars, Composer Beethoven and Sriman George Harrison. I love to eat fresh fruit, Pizza and Nachos (but not all together) and my favorite book's are The Bhagavad-Gita, The Srimad Bhagavatam, Siddhartha and Dharma Bums. I live here alone in conscious indebted solitude and I am a very quiet person.

I'm 45 years old Developmentally Disabled Person. I have impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication that may appear to be unusual and sometimes challenging.

I'm very respectfull of others and their privacy, as well. I expect my guests, especially ones younger than me to treat me and my home with reverence. I am available to help in many way's to make your stay a pleasurable one. To leave you be, or to show you around Town and/or the National Park and Nature Preserves here in the Beautiful Eastern Mohave.

Looking forward to showing you real Southern California by imparting genuine warm-hearted hospitality. Small Town with Big Hearts. See you soon.
