Response from Paul:
On Christmas Eve when Jackson arrived to stay at Peppercorn Lodge we noticed that only one of the three air conditioners in the lodge had been hit by a storm and had stopped working. We immediately called our specialist to have him come out and fix the problem although as it was Christmas eve it was extremely difficult to find anyone who could come out. We supplied multiple additional fans for the one area that no longer had air-conditioning. Not only were there still 2 air conditions working in the lodge plus additional fans we also had a cool change come through and according to wor (Website hidden by Airbnb) Christmas day only reached a max temperature of 21 degrees (cool enough for everyone else on the property to be in long pants/jumpers). It was unfortunate that the air-conditioning broke for this guests stay however this in no way should have allowed the guest to treat us and behave in such an unbelievable way. From the moment he arrived he called our host over and over again disturbing his Christmas time with family over irrelevant things. In regards to the dishwasher issue, it only needed to be used once for it to be damaged. We can supply proof from our specialist who had to come and fix the dishwasher that it had been over packed and then jammed shut causing it to malfunction. In addition, the fact that the guests thought it was okay to smoke inside a property that is very clearly NON-SMOKING is extremely disrespectful to us and our next guests who had to stay in the room. We had to fumigate the room multiple times to get rid of the awful smell that was left behind as you can imagine. The amount of money that had to be spent on fixing these issues after Jackson left cost our host much more than what Jackson was charged for his second night especially when taking into consideration penalty rates for all of the specialists who had to come out. Jackson requested a refund for his second night of the stay after deciding to leave that morning which we have a very clear and strict no-refund policy on. As soon as our staff returned from Christmas break on the 27th we contacted Jackson to apologise for the air conditioning being broken and to make him aware of these many reasons causing us to not be able to refund the 2nd night stay. It is so unfortunate for our business to receive such awful feedback from such an impossible guest after working so hard to insure they had a good stay with us at Peppercorn lodge. We have such great reviews and have never had another guest unhappy like this that we now regret letting a guest with no reviews or information on previous stays come for a Christmas getaway at peppercorn lodge. We have been left in shock that Jackson has attempted to drag our business down like this after successfully causing such a huge disturbance to our host throughout a time that he should have been able to spend happy and stress free with his family. We are saddened to find a guest with such little respect and appreciation for our beautiful and historical property and hope that no other host is effected as badly as we were by this guest again.
