Marty was a great host! Excellent communication and we greatly appreciated his flexibility with our (unexpectedly) late arrival (we ended up arriving ~10:30pm due to traffic)! His boat is ~1/2 mile out from the dock, so you'll take a little water taxi there (s boat is definitely the place to go!!

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay on the Unicorn - - it was a unique and interesting base from which to experience Nantucket. Marty was a wonderful host, giving us plenty of privacy, but also good conversation and helpful suggestions about the island. He has stories from his travels and a wealth of knowledge about boats and boating. Our cabin was cozy and comfortable and he served us a really outstanding breakfast both mornings

I had a great time staying onboard the Unicorn. This is a truly unique way to experience Nantucket and Captain Marty was a great host. I forgot toothpaste and more importantly a jacket for the water taxi rides to and from the Unicorn. Marty was ready with toothpaste and kind enough to lend me one of his windbreakers for the duration of my trip. As other reviewers have mentioned his breakfast is phenomenal and you should definitely take him up on it.

I have always marveled at the grace and beauty of sailboats as they sail the ocean, and have wondered what life on a sailboat is like. Our stay with Marty gave us a short glimpse of living on a sailboat. As a host, Marty went above and beyond his role. He met us at the ferry and took our bags out to the boat, allowing us to explore Nantucket without the hassle of dealing with our backpacks. Each day started with a hearty breakfast and we found lounging outside in the sun very relaxing. Marty is a great conversationalist and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. If interested in making a reservation, do not hesitate to ask him questions about the boat and what to expect. You will need to take the launch service to get to and from the boat ($5.00 pp each way), so suggest you plan your day in advance to minimize the number of trips.

The Unicorn is an amazingly comfortable sailboat set in the Nantucket harbor. She's built to sail around the world, and so it's equipped with a full kitchen and dining table, and you have your own bathroom and shower. Marty (who also stays on the bqoat) is friendly, welcoming and a great source of conversation. He also cooks up an incredible breakfast (I had 3 eggs, corn beef hash, grapefruit, and an incredible slice of merengue pie). Keep in mind that the Unicorn is in the harbor, so you'll need to take a Launch to get there. I took the launch from Straight Wharf called Waypoint Marine (Tim is the owner and is super cool too). Cost is $5 each way, and it runs until midnight during summer hours. Check the Waypoint Marine website for hours. If you're looking for a unique way to spend your time in Nantucket, I cannot recommend Marty and the Unicorn enough!

A great opportunity to try sailboat living and enjoy an experience unlike most others. The boat is comfortable and Marty is a delight. Breakfast is superb and you will walk away with a feeling of adventure. We stayed as a family of four.

You have to be a seasoned sailor used to onboard living and on shore showering!

Response from Marty:
Around 90% of my guests have never stayed on a boat before. Staying on a boat IS different than staying in a hotel! There are no hotels that sail around the world! There are compromises that allow for such mobility. The space is smaller, and the view is bigger! The boat doesn't have unlimited water for showers, and the hot water tank is much smaller than the ones installed in houses or inns. There is an on deck shower to rinse off after a swim, and the one in the master stateroom will give you privacy (if not a super long shower). There are marble lined showers on the dock with unlimited water.... If you're wondering what it's like to stay on a boat, UNICORN is a great way to have that experience.

I love life on the water, have lived on sailboats for many years, either for extended summers, or year round. Started sailing at the age of 7, later worked on a research vessel for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (have a few stories to tell, if guests are interested). I've built boats, and delivered boats from Maine to Florida. For the past 18 years I've been based on Nantucket. It is a wonderful place, where nature is close, the town is charming, and the waters surrounding the island are ever changing, and beautiful!

I'm a romantic at heart, it appears that most of my favorite movies are romances, #1 being "Cinema Paradiso". Reading is a passion, particularly accounts of sea travel, or natural history (I was a science teacher for 8 years). A few years ago I traveled to New Zealand, bought a 4-wheel drive minivan, and cruised around, fishing, and sightseeing. Definitely recommend the place!

My next goal is to get UNICORN ready for a trip down to the US and British Virgin Islands.
