Description

The space

The room is really spacious, but I try to make it cozy so you feel like a home away from home. It has an large attached bathroom, chairs and space to sit and relax. It even has a desk for working. Suitable for families, groups of friends, or couples who like some extra space and comfort.

Guest access

There is a chill balcony; in the morning you should come here, grab a cup of coffee and listen to the city waking up.

Right downstair is the famous Kafka bookstore and coffee bar (they only have Vietnamese books, but English books are coming soon).

Interaction with guests

I'm Phung. Me and my husband (Viet) stay in the house sometimes. When we are not around, our family or friend will show you around and give you the key.

We're on the phone 24/24, so please call us or message us on airbnb if you need any help.

The neighbourhood

The house is in a small alley, in a quiet residential neighbourhood. It is right in the centre of HCMC. There are many shops and many cheap, good restaurants around. Most attractions are nearby. Pham Ngu Lao backpacker street, Bui Vien, Ben Thanh market, museum, tour agencies, super market, Nguyen Trai shopping street, local wet market... There are so many things to explore, and you will save a lot on transportation.

Getting around

My place is within walking distance to the bus stop at Pham Ngu Lao backpacker street where you could catch many buses to other cities in Vietnam and Cambodia.

First thing to say is that Phung & Viet organised the taxi from the airport. Somebody was waiting for us, which was really appreciated. We were welcomed very warmly by James. He helped us calling a taxi and gave us some advice about where to have lunch. Indeed it was great! The room for family is really nice and clean with really huge and comfortable beds. Bathroom is slightly under the level of quality of the room. Only 2 small remarks: - It would be great to be able to take the breakfast in site. You can order the, coffee, orange juice but not really something to eat - the room being on the ground floor, it is a nit noisy during library opening hours. We spent a good time there

It is a nice place, inside a book store.named KAFKA. And the room is big and clean. And they got nice coffee. It take 5 mins to walk to the old street, where got restaurants, bars and nightlife. What most important is, the landlord is really nice. He help me get everything done.

Don't arrive early as check in is strictly 1pm. Bags can be left while you wander the streets. Room was good and Moon was very helpful with information.

My two friends and I spent two weeks traveling throughout Vietnam and this was far and away our favorite place that we stayed, even though it was only for a night. It is immaculately clean, cozy, and fun to hang out in with the bookstore and a beautiful balcony. The room was massive, the AC was strong (abaolutely necessary in Saigon), wifi was relatively fast, and our hosts were more than accomodating - letting us leave our bags during the day and even showering after we had already checked out. The place is a bit pricey, but then again you are getting to live in a great space.

The location was great, the room was clean and comfortable, and all the workers were extremely friendly. I felt safe given that my family and I stayed here for over a week. My only complaint is that it can get noisy at times as the room is connected directly to a bookstore, to which the owners host events at times. The foot traffic/coffee machines also added to the noise, but this didn't really bother me. I would stay here again!

The room is very spacious and well situated in HCMC. The bookstore is a very original place to sleep. James and Moon explained very well how to get to the bookshop. The place is unfortunately very loud even after closing time (10pm). The room is situated downstairs so you can hear people coming to open around 7am. Not very relaxing though. Unfortunately James was not very welcoming. He tried to help us going to the Mekong Delta by only selling one of his friend tour. He didn't showed us around when we arrived. We almost missed the terrasse which is quite stunning. And didn't really help when the bathtub was blocked and full of water (this means no shower the day after). Too bad because we were really happy to come there. If you want to rest from exhausting Ho Chi Minh this is not a good place to stay. Maybe chose one of the room upstairs.

Phung & Viet User ProfilePhung & Viet is a superhost.

Hi, I'm Phung and my husband is Viet (as in Viet-Nam!).

When we were younger, we were high school teachers, wood crafter, tailor, cinema owner, printer, sweet maker, computer shop manager, software programmer, prawn farmer, and aquarium designer. But now we're semi-retired.

We love travelling although we haven't had a lot of chance to travel. When we travel, we like to take it slowly and experience how the locals live. We have been to Singapore, Malaysia, and the US. We love to meet travellers and show you our lovely, beautiful country. Welcome to Vietnam! :-)
