What a beautiful, serene, fun place to escape to! We visited from the 13th through the 18th. The cottage was so cozy and clean. It was easy to feel completely at home and the view of the lake was absolutely phenomenal. We woke up each morning to coffee on the deck or dock and spent our days swimming, fishing, cooking out, collecting shells, and getting so much time in with family. The water is incredibly warm and really shallow at the edge, with a very gradual incline (our five year old was only shoulder deep at the end of the dock). I would definitely suggest taking along water shoes. The neighbors were so welcoming. If you're interested in fishing, take along some bait and hooks - there was one fishing pole downstairs when we stayed. My Dad caught several bluegill. The inflatables that we found downstairs were so much fun. We did take a quick trip into Rockford, which is a really nice little town. It was hard to pull ourselves away to go, though, as we felt we were missing out on time at the cottage and lake. There is a really beautiful path through a nature preserve (down the road to the left). Be sure to take along some bug spray - there are mosquitoes, but it's worth it. The house was really comfortable - comfy beds with nice bedding, a water purifier on the faucet, tons of dishes, etc., and so much was already there in terms of shampoo, conditioner, laundry soap, wood for fires. I would suggest taking along your own condiments, a lighter for starting fires. Trust me - you won't want to leave to go to the store. Our evenings were spent hanging out with family, having fires at the water's edge (we could have had fires all day with the amount of wood that was supplied), roasting marshmallows, taking in the gorgeous sunset over the water. And one of our favorites? We took a walk down the road to the right and there were countless fireflies in a field - it was so magical for our little one (us too, actually). In short, it was a phenomenal stay and left us feeling like we really got some good time away. Note that there are quite a few stairs! If you plan to have visitors who have physical limitations, this would be an issue. Alex has a gorgeous place and we're really thankful that we were able to stay as long as we did.
Great spot all around! The lake front is nice and shallow near the dock and it was great for our 3 & 5 year olds to play in the water safely. Also had a pleasant surprise when we found the lake holds some good sized Large Mouth Bass! Alex was fast to respond to any questions during our stay and his lake house is well kept. Thanks we'll be back.
