Using our apartments as a "base" you can experience unforgettable moments on the island of Crete.
And some suggestions ...
Because of the high altitude of Lassithi Plateau it is mainly believed that there were nowhere watermills, only windmills. In fact there were watermills in the water-rich southwest part of Lasithi. With the time the watermills in Lassithi were disused and now they area covered by dense vegetation. The mills of the plateau are met at the villages Agios Charalambos, Kaminaki, Avrakontes, Plati, Magoulas and Psichro. One of the mills preserved in quite good condition is the watermill of Plati, located on a slope slightly higher than the village in a wooded location with old oaks, platans and other trees. The watermill in Plati hosts a large stone cistern where water was collected and used later for grinding the grain.

Text - Unknown Crete

Pahia Ammos is located 20km east of Agios Nikolaos, on the road connecting Agios Nikolaos with Sitia and Ierapetra. It is a large village, built on the north side of the narrowest part of Crete, at the exit of a fertile plain with olive groves. The local beach and the sights of the surrounding area have contributed to the mild development of the village. In the village you will find small hotels, rooms and taverns.

In front of Pahia Ammos and 500m to the east, a long beach with sand and pebbles unfolds, which is open to the north winds. The sea is usually wavy, but you can stay at the west part of the beach, which is well protected by a jetty. This part is sandy and clean, well organized with umbrellas and sunbeds.

If you seek peace, you can stay remote in the eastern part of the beach, but it is unprotected from the waves. Moreover, at this point currents carry garbage, mainly because Pahia Ammos is located in southern part of the Gulf of Mirabello. There are several tamarisk trees and the beach is pebbly. At the east end of the beach flows the stream that carries water from the impressive Gorge of Ha (in winter).

It was nice studio, with very cheeap price. Everything was clean, and comfortable. The only minus is the close location to the highway, so close the window at night.)

Very communicative host, answered all of my questions quickly and accurately. Nice quiet neighborhood, not far from the bus station and the center where you can even bike/walk. recommended.

Staying at Nektario`s place was a pleasant and interesting experience :-) It is about a 30 minute walk to the city center but there is also a bike to use. For a foreigner from a flat northern country it was quite a journey to navigate between the hills by bike. But totally worth it. Bikes don't have locks but luckily it is safe in Heraklion and nobody just takes your bike. The environment is eclectic. There was a horse living in the backyard (at neighbors`s land) and also a highway near the house. Nice combo of farm yards with lemon and olive trees and luxury houses. The apartment has a very good price for a longer stay. Almost all we needed was there. The minus sides of the apartment for us was that there were 3 small knives (one of them a pocketknife). As we made Greek salad for dinner, it was difficult to cut/chop cucumber and tomatoes. The sheets were 100% polyester which was a bit uncomfortable. But the host was helpful and communicative :-) Thank you!

Nektarios User Profile

My name is Nektarios and I come from Crete. I lived my early days in a small village called Garazo, located on the foot of Psiloritis (= high mountain in Greek). After graduated high school, I continued my studies in health sciences. I have currently moved to Athens where is my permanent work base. I am married with Vasiliki and we have a little baby girl.
Instead of studying, I love travelling all over the world to meet new people and cultures and taste new dishes. I am getting used to go to gym and play football. I also prefer watching films on cinema or go out for a drink during weekend evenings.
I became a host on Airbnb in February 2016 and my goal is to make my guests feel as comfortable as possible so that they can have a great time in my place, the beautiful island of Crete.
