Calath is a self-catering house situated within 20 minutes walk from the village of Carbost on the west coast of Skye. It is a modern house designed by the award winning architects Dualchas.

The house has two large double bedrooms, a twin room and can sleep up to seven people comfortably. There is a large open plan dining/lounge area where the views to the loch and of the whole of the Cuillin ridge must be seen to be believed.

The space
The most striking feature of the house are the views. From the huge three metre wide single pane window in the lounge area the whole ridge of the Cuillin mountain range can be seen in its full glory, ever changing with the weather, it is a view to remember.

From the dining area there is an unobstructed view of Loch Harport where from time to time small fishing boats may pass or you may be lucky and get a glimpse of a porpoise !

Upstairs the rooms also enjoy similar views and also on a clear night the starry skies can be viewed from the roof light windows. Some guests visiting in the winter months have been lucky enough to see the spectacular display of the Northern Lights over the loch.

Where you’ll be

Carbost, United Kingdom

The neighbourhood around the house is full of great walks and attractions. The famous Cuillin mountains are less than 10 miles away and can be viewed in their entirety from the lounge windows. There are many walks within a few miles too including the "Fairy pools" and Talisker beach.

The village of Carbost is only a 20 min walk away. The Talisker Distillery is there where you can go on a tour of the whisky production process and enjoy a "wee dram" at the end . There is also a pub "The Old Inn" which serves good pub meals and regularly hosts live music evenings. Great to sit and enjoy a good local beer and listen to some traditional music. Carbost also has a small shop, a medical centre and a post office.

For more shops and the nearest supermarket, Portree is a 30 min drive away through some stunning scenery. There are several first class restaurants to choose from and also Chinese and Indian for those who want a wider choice of dining. Tourist information is also available here with details of all the other attractions on the Island.
