A minimalist room with private entry, private bathroom, and access to the public areas of the house.

The space

Come and stay in the quiet, tree-lined Silver Hill neighborhood in the heart of the city. The Silver Hill neighborhood has been home to many influential residents. Among them was the remarkable Myrtle Greenfield, who once lived in this very house! Originally from Kansas, Greenfield became the first director of the State Public Health Laboratory in New Mexico in 1919 at the University of New Mexico. Her legacy helped save thousands of lives and established a healthier environment for future generations in our state. During her 37 years with the State Public Health Laboratory she identified the sources of many communicable diseases leading to improved availability of potable water and improved milk and food handling. In 1922 Ms. Myrtle Greenfield commissioned the construction of a one-story adobe home through Architects McConnell-Rossiter. In addition, this house is known for its urban legend - no ghost stories here, but a truly original love story that I will be happy to share with you over coffee.

General description:
This home offers original wood floors and abundant windows that create a sense of spaciousness and airiness that is further accentuated by its elevation from street level. Many of this home’s original features are still in place, and random modern touches abound creating a warm eclectic environment.

Silver Hill neighborhood places you walking distance from the dives surrounding the university and the swanky eateries and shops of Nob Hill. Public transportation is ½ block from the back and front doors, and Rapid Ride, which transverses the city, is just a short walk away; either will get you to Albuquerque’s transportation center where you can take a bus to other parts of the city or catch the Rail Runner to Santa Fe.

The room I’m offering is a converted sleeping porch which is now a very airy and light-filled room. It has private entry and its own bathroom accessed from the room itself. Heavy drapes are available to darken the room if needed.

Fans of the series 'Breaking Bad' can walk down the block and visit the site where Jesse rented an apartment and where Jane... well, if you're a fan you know what happened.

Walking distance to UNM, CMN, hospitals, downtown, and Nob Hill.

Guest access

Guest(s) has/have access to the living and dining rooms and the kitchen for miscellaneous things. You may prepare food if you are willing to share with everyone, and you may also dine with me if I have prepared food.

Other things to note

FYI: because some guests want to know before they book, there is no recent paint in the room. I use Meyer's cleaning products - same for laundry detergent - and I have 2000 Flushes in the toilet tank that I can remove if bleach fumes are offensive to you. I spray for bugs as needed with Bugs 'R' Done and dust with boric acid to discourage water bugs; when I'm expecting a guest, I won't spray for at least a week before the guest arrives. Also, as I am not willing to create a toxic environment, your experience may not be that of a completely bug-free space.

Very clean n comfortable and Maria was very approachable and accommodating. Location was great for UNM commute and close to some trendy eateries. Convenient garden private entry and I felt less like a number and more like a guest. Would recommend sincerely

Maria is friendly, yet quiet. I was staying during a time when she was moving and no longer intending to rent. I think the room was worth the price.

Maria is the host's host. She's completely lovely as is her home, but most of all I value her flexibility. She's the most easygoing person I've ever met. Soft, kind, accessible, but not at all imposing. In fact if you care to hear what she might say you'll have to ask and listen thotfully. I highly recommend Maria. btw I stayed in Maria's home for two months so be assured I have the definitive word :)

Maria's brilliant home is a wonderful place to stay. The space is clean, clear, and full of light. Maria's pace is calming and her conversation deliberate. I needed help with a few things and Maria kindly assisted, including showing me how to prepare lovely food and sharing it. I highly recommend Maria as a host and her home as a supremely pleasant place to spend time. The cat's cool, too :)

Maria is a mellow and accommodating host. The space is very private with own entrance and bathroom along with off street parking in the back by the entrance. It is spacious with lots of windows for fresh air. The location is very close to everything. Plus, Sammy the cat is there to greet you every morning.

Please stay here! PLEASE! This was an amazing 1month stay with Maria, she was so accommodating! The room was spacious, private entry which was amazing. I was here as a travel nurse and worked 2nd shift so I was able to come in the home without waking Maria up. We had several conversations, watched a couple shows together and shared laughs. She's a beautiful person inside and out and the same goes for her home. It's walking distance to bars and restaurants. Dunkin' Donuts is right down the street, I ran around the neighborhood everyday. The neighborhood is peaceful and bike friendly!

I am creating a place where people can stay when they come to the Albuquerque area be it on vacation, business or career purposes. I'm quiet and easy going and enjoy hosting and taking care of people. I like to travel and explore. I especially love exploring metropolis.
