Our place is in the heart of the Blue Hill peninsula, close to Blue Hill and Castine. You’ll love our place because of the spectacular views of Northern Bay and our pristine salt marsh. Relaxing in the Adirondack chairs and watching the bay change as the tide ebbs and flows is a delight, and is not unusual to see bald eagles soaring over the flats.

The space

Lindsay and I have renovated our classic cape over the last few years. The first floor bath, with a stall shower, is new, and the upstairs bath, with a claw foot tub, commands a great view of the hay fields and barn. The kitchen is very fully equipped.

Like most old houses in Maine and New England, our place is situated on the road (think of shoveling all that snow!). We rarely find the traffic to be a distraction from the serenity of the surroundings, and the view of the bay is unimpeded.

This is a really wonderful house in a beautiful location! The house has interesting decorations and the kitchen is well stocked, and there is plenty to do in the area. This is certainly one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in.

View was spectacular and the house was charming and quaint and equipped with everything you need. The property manager, Bim, was extremely helpful with insight on points of interest around the area, as well as a great person to chat with about Maine in general. The bugs were pretty fierce, but I suppose that's to be expected this time of year in Maine. Our family fell in love with the State and look forward to our next visit.

Though we didn't meet him, Stuart was a gracious host. He provided good communication throughout the process and answered our questions. The home is as described. For some reason, we thought the profile photo of the house was the back of the house facing the bay - but the bay is actually in front of the house across the street, thus the photo is the front of the house. The location of the home is perfect for both some peace and quiet - and for visiting local attractions - a trip to the tower of the Penobscot Bridge was a highlight - as well as a trip to Acadia National Park (about 1.5 hour drive) The proximity to the road did not bother us - there were not many cars - though on our last day we got a treat. We were able to sit in the chairs and watch a procession of antique cars (Model Ts and As and others of the era). It was like our own private parade.

Response from Stuart:
Thanks, Thomas for your nice review. We are so pleased that you had a good time, and that you enjoyed our wonderful vistas. You concern about the neighbor's bushes is spot on. When we leave the driveway, we are very careful, too. I trimmed the bushes way back this spring, but they have clearly grown back. Next year we will ask our care taker to trim the bushes during the summer when he cuts the lawn, and I am sure that future guests will benefit from your candid feedback. Thanks!

Stuart sent us information about directions, what to do upon arrival, general tips about the house, and about Maine. We were visited by the caretaker a few times. He gave us ideas about where to go and was very helpful when we were planning our day trips. This was a very enjoyable trip to Maine. The views were beautiful and the house was comfortable and well equipped.

We are from Cincinnati but we lived in this house in Penobscot full time in the '70s. We spend two weeks in Penobscot every summer to relax, enjoy the unspoiled ambience, and to do at least one project to make the place better.
