About this listing
My home is close to restaurants and dining and family-friendly activities. You’ll love the ambiance, the outdoors space, the light, and the comfy beds. A warm fire and generous rooms will make your holiday in the snow one of the best ever.
Our house is unique, very alpine but warm and cosy at the same time. The views are to die for and every day is special. Generous spaces mean you can relax, adults and children alike. We would like you to feel that this home is your home and has the creature comforts you would expect in your own home. After all who wants to go on holiday and stay somewhere that is not as comfortable as what they have.
You can access all the spaces in the house except the one storage space upstairs in bedroom 3. There is ample storage for you in there as well. The outside sheds are not accessible except the pump shed.
We have a 70,000 litre water storage, so you will never run out. Heating is electric and wood-fired so if one has an interruption you will have another. You can enjoy the outside space, play a game of cricket, hit golf balls (as long as you pick them up) and walk down the avenue of gums or under the trees near the water. There is a local tennis court 500m down the gravel road and tennis rackets upstairs and some balls. There are golf clubs for practice and some balls in the parking bay.
Interaction with guests
We will leave a number for any help you may need on the spot, problems with wifi or any electrical items or tv etc. The cleaner will arrive at 10am to clean and make ready for new guests. Board and card games are in the sideboard in the dining room.
There is a lovely walkway in Methven and the house is just 15mins drive from Rakaia Gorge where you can jet boat, fish or walk the track. The views are special too.
You are the same distance from Mt Hutt as Methven is. Daily transport to and from the mountain is available from the Methven Isite stop in Mt Hutt Hall building between the two pubs. They also have internet access and a Mt Hutt guest services area as well as loads of info on Methven and the district and things to do. There are hire cars available from there also. Restaurants are good and there is a wide variety, from Pizza, Thai, Japanese. Sri Lankan and pubs to several A la Carte styles. Loads of cafes and some have free books to take away. There is a skating ramp for the kids in Spaxton Street, not far from the town centre. Yoga sessions 3 or 4 times a week in the Memorial Hall welcome casuals. There is also a gymnasium. For the serious swimmer there is a fabulous indoor pool an gym at EANetworks in Ashburton, just 20 mins from Methven. If you don't mind driving there is skating in Stavely in the colder months and there is a fine cafe there at the Stavely Store. For the golfer there is the Methven Golf Club and a resort course at Terrace Downs over the gorge. Both have hire clubs and carts.
Other things to note
Do dry out your boots as they can be uncomfortable to wear skiing if damp. There is a drying space in the hot water cupboard and upstairs. Use the dryer for towels etc and any delicates or woolens can be hung out upstairs. With the fire on, everything dries quickly. Alway put the fan on to distribute the heat from the fire evenly. It is much more pleasant. Books on shelf upstairs to read while you are here.DVD's in CD storage.
- Log Burner - guests need to know how to light a fire and wood pile ovee near the gum trees.
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund, including service fees.
We have lived in this area for over 30 years and love the clear Canterbury skies, the skiing and golfing and the warm-hearted community. My man Gary was a ski instructor at Mt Hutt for many years and now coaches golf teachers. We know how to relax and hope you will too.
