What a gorgeous place! As it turned out, we booked our trip at the very end of the low season, which meant we had almost the whole island to ourselves. It was a delightful weekend! Hilde welcomed us warmly at the marina and helped ferry all of us to the island. Getting the chance to pilot our own little boat to the house was a real treat.
On the sunny days, we ventured back into Kristiansand, an easy trip with the boat moored right at our front door. The house was clean and cozy and easily accommodated the five of us--four adults and one toddler. In the evenings, we took long walks, and our daughter played on the little beaches, hunting for shells and spotting starfish in the water. On the rainy day, we just stayed inside, lit candles and played games. There are two separate living areas, which gave us some added privacy.
My only criticism would be that the kitchen lacked a few basic things--cooking oil, pepper, a few spices--that would have made home cooking easier. Otherwise, everything we needed was there and ready when we arrived. Hilde even brought some extra blankets the day we arrived, because the forecast was surprisingly chilly. She was a lovely hostess, and I appreciated how accessible she was via text.
Our family came away with lots of fun memories. This taste of Nordic island life--even without the full-blown summer paradise--was enchanting, and we hope to return someday.
