'Curlew' is on the East beach in the lovely Devon village of Branscombe. It has a unique position right on the beach on a raised elevation, throw open the balcony doors and you are looking out onto the ever changing sea and stunning coastline which is a World Heritage site and area of outstanding natural beauty. There are two fine pubs supplying excellent food and locally brewed ales in the village and amazing cliff path walks East or West.

The space

Living as close as is humanly possible to the sea, without the movement of a boat! The Chalet is actually on a raised platform on the beach, the French doors open onto a balcony where all you can see is the ever changing water and sky.

Guest access

Open lounge with balcony, two bedrooms (one double one with twin singles, further sleeping space in lounge) a bathroom with power shower and bath, toilet and washbasin plus heated towel rail. New Kitchen with gas hob, electric oven and fridge, sink and sliding table to create different space for large or small groups. Table and chairs to eat outdoors too.

Interaction with guests

Always available either via messaging or telephone.

Other things to note

The steps to and from the Chalet are quite steep, access can be gained from the rear if any mobility difficulties.

Please make sure the Chalet is as clean when you leave as it is (or should be) when you arrive. There are cleaning materials under the lounge seating near the kitchen entrance and a Vacuum Cleaner in the front bedroom. (There is a cleaner but due to the shortness of some Air b&b visits it is impossible to deep clean between every visit.) Please let me know of any problems with cleanliness.

Rubbish needs to be taken either to metal bin at top of path to the field or, if it's not there, the bins in the car park.

Please also supply your own Duvet covers, bottom sheets and pillowcases, also towels. There is one double, two singles and sleeping bags are suggested for the sleeping arrangements in the lounge which involve use of the flat sofa cushions placed together.

Thanks, J

This was our 3rd time staying at Curlew. Its a magnificent spot, incredibly beautiful, and the Curlew chalet is a perfect spot to enjoy the beach from - warm and cosy in the evening, bright and airy in the daytime... amazing to fall asleep with the sounds of the sea in the background and just awesome to wake up, on the beach and be out paddling before even the fishermen have arrived for the morning! The chalet is well kitted out, has an excellent boiler/heating system, and the balcony - we have had so many great meals there. I really struggle to find the words, but in a busy world, Branscombe and Jonathans chalet is an amazingly calm, relaxing, uplifting place to soothe away the working week and get back in touch with a gentler, simpler way of living. We've already booked for next time... and face the difficult decision of do we a) tell everyone we know about this wonderful place or b) keep the secret tou ourselves!!! (We're telling everyone!) This is the type of chalet that makes you reevaluate your life. If you’re from the city then opening your curtains and seeing the sea just 20 feet away is pretty special. The location is amazing. The chalet itself is perfect in that it’s spacious, has pretty much everything you need and feels cosy. As it’s October, we had the doors to the balcony open in the day/evening and then the heating come on in the evening. Honestly, if you’re looking for a simple stay in a beautiful setting then this is the place for you!

We had the best few days at this little Branscombe bolt hole. Don't be put off by the walk from the car, once you're there and set up you won't see another person for hours and that's the beauty of it!

A really well organised cosy chalet in a fabulous location. Jonathan made it all very easy and remained attentive via text. All in all a very calming place to relax. We will definitely be back.

Johnathon was a great host always contactable and prompt at replying. We had an amazing time but do feel the cleaning is an issue. I think it should be at least inspected before any new arrivals. We left the place clean which would be sufficient but some times people can't be trusted. Beautiful location and felt very relaxed after our holiday. Views were amazing and spent most of our days sitting on the veranda watching the world go by.
