What a wonderful experience. Sadly, we were only able to stay for one night (next time I'll stay longer) but I will definitely be returning and would highly recommend Friar's Oven Farm. In short, everything was just perfect! We received a warm welcome on arrival by Gillian and her charming (and very polite) daughter. Fresh, tasty home-made cake and bread were waiting for us as we entered. The place was spotless and the kitchen (very well stocked) and bathroom facilities are fantastic. Excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. I could go on and on as it was all great. The BBQ in the "Pixie" hut are a big hit. So easy to use and fully height adjustable so for once I didn't burn the sausages. Gillian was always available but never intrusive. Simply wonderful!

Lovely place to stay, kick back and relax. The BBQ lodge is warm and inviting and the Bell Tent is airy and very comfortable. The shower room and kitchenette have everything you need and finished to a very high standard. Gillian was very helpful and welcoming and her homemade bread and Victoria sponge was delicious, thank you.

Gillian was very welcoming and helped us find her place which is tucked away. The view is breathtaking. Our dog was very happy to be in such an idyllic spot.

A magical experience that my two boys aged 5 and 9 absolutely loved and will always remember. Gillian and her daughter were perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome and not at all intrusive. Everything in the cottage, lodge and tent are immaculately clean and everything had been thought of, we had home made cake and a pot of tea set out in the cottage on our arrival which really was delicious. The tent and barbecue lodge are a little walk from the cottage which was fine this actually then made you feel like you were really camping and not staying in a 5 star hotel. The barbecue lodge was such a great experience would love one of these at home. We visited Wells the next day which is a ten minute drive away, the cathedral is definitely worth a visit it's very impressive and the little cobbled street adjoining it is like a film set really pretty.

If you're looking for space and tranquility without being too far from civility and civilisation then this is hard to beat. You know you're far from the madding crowd when you can't find the farm and distance is measured in fields..! But when you find it, you feel like you've found a secret bolthole in the West Country. Homemade cake, home-made bread and fresh milk were waiting for us in Little Owl (the indoors kitchen/bathroom). The lodge and the tent were just as immaculate (although we were the first to use all three so no wear and tear). Most importantly, Gillian (the host) and her daughter are charming, relaxed, super-friendly and very welcoming. The set up is perfect as you have all the joy of camping with a real kitchen and a very smart bathroom (toilet and power shower) just few yards away. Oh, it has a sofa and a TV too which is great if the Heavens open. Highly recommend staying here - it's far from cheap but when you factor in the lodge/belltent/kitchen-bathroom combo it seems more reasonable. Bring torches, charcoal briquettes (not lump wood charcoal because you don't want anything spitting sparks inside the lodge) and some shoes you can easily slip on and off as you move between the lodge, tent and house. Happy glamping!

Gillian User ProfileGillian is a superhost.

hi, I am Gillian. I live on a beautiful, rural farm with my daughter Nicola and my Dachshund puppy Chloe. We used to run the farm as an organic goat and sheep dairy farm, producing yoghurt, milk and cream.
We no longer do this but have converted our processing buildings into additional accommodation that we can let out to people looking for a relaxing and peaceful break with stunning views.
We grow vegetables and soft fruits, together with other home baked goodies that will be available for our visitors!
Both Nicola and I enjoy making Jewellery and other craft items, as I originally trained as a fashion designer.
We enjoy camping, going to the beach, walking in woods and we really appreciate good food! My ideal way of travelling is by train.
