Description

The space

It's full of things we love, mostly brought back from trips.

Guest access

Once you're in your space it's all yours -- kind of a private apartment with its own bathroom plus one large room with a sleeping area and a sitting room. There's a balcony overlooking the back yard plants and pond.
You'll have a private entrance to use. It's up some stairs on the back of our house.
You're also welcome to sit in the back yard or use the barbecue there.

Interaction with guests

We like to greet guests at the front door when they first arrive so we can introduce Chloe and Lex. Once you feed them a biscuit they'll be your new best friends.
After that you can be completely alone or you can join us for a visit.
If there's anything you need call or text us at any time or just knock on the front door. We live on the premises so one of us is usually here.

The neighbourhood

Mahncke Park has an eclectic mix of early 20th Century houses along with some newer construction. We live right on the park. It's a quick walk to the Botanical Garden, the zoo, Sunken Garden, a golf course, museums, etc. There's a fun beer garden a few blocks away and quite a few interesting restaurants.

Getting around

There's street parking for your car. If you arrive by bicycle or motorcycle you can park in the fenced back yard.
There are bus stops very close by. Uber and Lyft also serve the area -- fare to downtown is about $9. And it's a very walkable neighborhood.
There's also a bicycle rental location within walking distance.

Other things to note

Feel free to ask if there's anything you need.

Joyce and Dick were great hosts. Extremely friendly and helpful. The room was great and stocked with amenities of all sorts. Next time I am in San Antonio I will certainly book with them again!

This was one of my most positive airbnb experiences ever. Joyce and her husband just had a lovely vibe, and we really regret not being able to just stay and get to know them. The photos do not do justice. How to describe the space? Georgia O'Keefe chic? Frederick Remington's man cave? A really good feeling. Also, the botanical garden was so close, we drove there, but could have walked it in 5 minutes, max. Literally right there. Also, if you're doing the tourista thing, the Riverwalk was a very short uber ride away (5-10 minutes). When we left, Joyce rerouted us, sending us on a very scenic route back east, rather than I 10. Thanks, both of you!

Joyce and Dickie are such warm, friendly and welcoming hosts! And so are their sweet dogs! They are very accommodating and will help with anything! There is parking on the street and a private entrance for guests in the back of the home. The space is very unique, interesting and comfortable. The Emergency Chocolate bar put a smile on my face!

Joyce and Dickie are great hosts. They make you feel like home. They guide you very well for the trip and are always there at your service. I must say that they have maintained the house very clean and beautiful. I would recommend it without hesitating.

We love to travel. We've stayed in homes in the US, UK, Germany, Italy and Africa using Airbnb and a housesitting site. So much better than hotels!
Being at home is nice, too. Our house is old and the neighborhood is interesting. We live on a park where we can sit on the porch with a glass of wine and watch the joggers and dog-walkers go by.
Gardening is a passion of mine. Possibly a form of mental illness. I've seldom met a plant I didn't like and the yard shows it.
We have two loud but sweet-tempered big dogs -- a boxer mix named Lex and a rottie named Chloe. If you like cats Zippy and Bell will keep you company in the yard. If you don't like cats you'll have to explain that to them. We no longer name the fish in our pond because it's too much of a tragedy when raccoons or herons eat them.
