The space

The huts at Killedmond are very special. We have two huts located about 20 metres apart from each other that are available to let together or separately(see listing for our Blue Mountain Hut ).The huts are traditional shepherd's huts and contain a double bed, some vintage furniture and a lovely view across the meadow. The huts are fitted with lights and heating. The setting is very tranquil and quiet. The huts are located in the grounds of The Old Rectory, a Victorian home. We have converted a barn space into a contemporary shared space complete with wet room, bathroom and toilets as well as an open plan kitchen space with long dining table and magnificent views out into our water garden. Guests staying in the huts may use this barn to wash and cook. It is about 100 metre walk to the barn from the huts along an old beech tree lined avenue which is lit up at night. Breakfast is provided for guests to help themselves to in the barn in the morning (bread, fruit, eggs, butter, bacon, teas and coffee). Help yourselves, and on cool mornings ,sit around the wood burning stove and relax !

Guest access

Guests will have sole access to their own hut and have access to the shared barn space with bathroom, open plan kitchen space and toilets. Guests will not have access to The Old Rectory which is our family home. Guests are welcome to wander around our vegetable garden, woods and watergarden. Only areas marked private are for family use only.

We live on site so we should be around if you have a question. Alternatively please text or email us and we will get back to you. We aim to answer all your questions before you book.

The neighbourhood

We live under the beautiful Blackstairs Mountains. Your hosts are professional walking and foraging guides and there is scope to book a tour with them, for further information please visit (URL HIDDEN) There are plenty of outdoor pursuits in this unspoilt part of Co. Carlow. There is lots of cycling, kayaking and walking locally. Borris village is only 4 km away and is home to some wonderful pubs, tearooms, restaurants. If there is something you are particularly interested in doing, please ask us! We may be able to arrange it.

Getting around

Our huts are located in a very rural area. This is part of the charm! There is no bus or train outside the door however there is a reliable local taxi service for short journeys but we recommend you have a car with you. There is plenty of space for parking! The nearest train station is 20 minutes drive away in Bagenalstown. We are situated 4Km from Borris wedding venues and 68 Km from Rosslare Ferry Terminal

Other things to note

I had the most wonderful stay at Blackstairs in the blue mountain hut. Robert picked me up from my train in Bagenalstown, and both Mary and Robert dropped me back at the station at the end of my stay. Both the hut and the barn are beautiful, cosy and comfortable, with everything you could possibly need. Breakfast and tea/coffee provisions were great. The setting is gorgeous and it's lovely to be in the country and hear the birds. Mary, Robert, and their extended family are all very warm and engaging people. I didn't want to leave and I can't wait to go back.

Wonderful place, very quiet, very scenic but close enough to Borris that a trip to the shop or the pub is no hassle. Mary was a great host, gave us all the information we needed and left us to our own devices. Loved it.

from the moment I arrived I felt welcome; Mary's husband Robert gave us such a warm greeting and this was my introduction to an eco-friendly, interesting, warm and hospitable household. They both did everything possible to make our holiday most enjoyable. We cooked for ourselves each evening in the very well equipped barn kitchen and slept in the cosiest bed with fresh crisp linen (was there ever a shepherd treated so well). Mary's gardens and wild meadow fields are a delight of colour with nature's abundance. I'd love to return!
