The space

Our charming and much loved traditional house right in the heart of Alghero old town. Very recently renovated with a new bathroom and kitchen in a simple, rustic style. There are two large bedrooms, one with two single beds and one double (two singles pushed together). One bedroom has a balcony looking on to the street. The house is on three floors: its own front door leading up the stairs to bedroom one on the first floor, bedroom two and the bathroom on the second floor and the kitchen diner on the third floor. The kitchen leads directly onto a magnificent private terrace which has views over the old town and the cathedral. The terrace has sun loungers, a table for six to eat at and a barbeque. There is a washing machine in a store cupboard on the terrace. Please note that it is a characterful old house and you will need to mind your head on some low ceilings on the way up to the kitchen and on the height of some doorways!
The house is on a pedestrianized street so apart from the occasional delivery there are no cars or motorbikes. But please note that whilst there are no cars, you are right in the town and as such there’s a fair amount of general hubbub of the people going their way to and from restaurants and cafés. There’s a great number of fantastic places to eat that are moments away as are a great array of shops and boutiques.
The sea walls of the old town are a few minutes’ walk and the nearest beach is 15-20 minutes walk along the seafront. There is a fruit and veg market and a fish market about 2 minutes walk from the house.
There is a easy to use bus service from the airport which stops 2 minutes walk from the house, so there is no need for a car. There is also a very helpful tourist office 2 minutes from the house. Alghero Old Town really is a beautiful place and the gorgeous house is right in the heart of this charming Sardinian town.

Everything was like we expected. The house is right in the middle of everything and indeed very charming. Just a bit noisy at night as we were there at peek season. The communication with Roger was always easy and warmheartedly, the information he gave us very useful.

The Host: Roger was fantastic, professional & friendly. Responded promptly to emails & texts. Provided all the information we could need for our stay regarding the house/ transfers from the airport etc. Everything has been thought of & written down in a 'house info' book. Also Roger has great local knowlege of the area & island itself. I cannot recommend him enough. The House: Excellent. Great location, 10 mins walk through the charming old town to the marina, or 2-5 minutes from tens of restuarants (we recommend Paco's, get there early if you want to sit outside), 2 mins from bus stop & market. We were met by Monica who showed us the houses 2 large bedrooms, shower/bathroom, kitchen, utility room & - pièce de résistance - rooftop terrace. As descibed the kitchen is a little tight if theres more than 2 cooking but theres plenty of space on the terrace to sunbath or enjoy a meal. One thing to note is there are four stories & therefore quite a few stairs, the payoff being the view from the terrace - great for people watching! There were guidebooks & notes from previous visitors that we found really helpful. There are foodstuffs in the kichen (local honey/oil etc) that we were welcome to use which we felt reflected the hosts generousity of spirit. We considered it a privilege to stay in a house with such character rather than a modern apartment or hotel. The City/Island: We were really impressed by Alghero, the city is full of intersting streets, restaurants & people. The beaches are fantastic, particularly Lazaretto, the bombarde, La Pelosa (worth getting up early for as by midday it must be one of the most densely populated places on earth, even in september!) & Argentiera which has crystal clear water due to the unique fine gravel beach. We also happened upon Porto Conte at Sunset which was perfection. Nepunes Grotto at Capo Cacchia is worth a trip by car/bus or boat. Bosa is a lovely town with a panoramic view from the hilltop castle & a maze od muticoloured windy streets in which to get lost! If you drive, the coast road from alghero is spectacular but watch out for the parking fines in bosa marina!!

We had a lovely stay at Roger’s house in Alghero. Roger’s friend Stefano met us at the house when we arrived. Both Roger and Stefano were pretty flexible about arrival and departure times, which was good since we had a late return flight in the evening. The accommodation is a fully refurbished little old house in the old town of Alghero. Located in the very centre of the city, we could easily walk to all major attractions in the city. The two rooms are very spacious and just great to accommodate two couples or a family of 4-5. The rooms are distributed on two different floors, so intimacy is fully guaranteed. The best part, though is the terrace on the 3rd floor. A beautiful space looking out on a little and busy street in the core of the city, perfect for a dinner or a glass of Corcegan wine in the evening!! The kitchen was small, but had all the necessary stuff for cooking. The only thing you may miss in the house is a living room, specially in case the weather outside was not so nice. But we were just fine, as the sun kept on fully shining in the middle of August! We did not have the chance to meet Roger , but he was a nice host, timely responding our questions by email and providing towels and a selection of guide books upon our arrival. I fully recommend Roger’s house for a lovely stay in beautiful Alghero!

I am in my 40's and married to Jessica. We have two children and live in Brighton, but try to be in Alghero as much as possible, but can't be there all the time so have decided to put the house on Airbnb. We have friends in Alghero, and a lovely couple Sylvia and Antonio will let you in to the house and show you around. I can speak a little Italian and French, but Jessica speaks both very well.
