Hi,

This is a spacious single room, with a desk, reading light and most importantly, a comfortable bed!

We're friendly and welcoming, with good local knowledge. It's close to Manchester, Stockport and the Peak District. It's easy to get into the city by public transport and is quick to get to the universities and motorway too.

Our place is good if you want a nice place to relax, to cook some food for yourself, with fast wifi and to experience a home from home.

The space
You have use of this comfy single room, with a wardrobe and drawers. You’ll have access to the bathroom, close to your room, which we share.

There is a desk and chair, to complete work, if you like.

The room is set up for guests for your sole use. There is a lock inside, for security when you are in the room. There are books, videos, games, stationery and DVDs in the room, which you are free to use during your stay.

We provide breakfast - cereal or toast. You can help yourself at a time that suits you best. Let us know what cereal or bread you would prefer, when you book in.

We are a quiet household, on the whole, sleeping from around 10pm to 6am. These are quiet times in the home. We ask guests to respect these quiet times.

In particular if you wish to hold calls this is best done before 10pm or in the lounge, where it won’t disturb the rest of the household during sleeping hours.

We ask guests to shower before 10pm to keep noise to a minimum.

This is a single room - other people aren’t permitted into our home unless by prior arrangement.

We ask that you wear slippers in the house for hygiene purposes. There is space to leave your shoes in the hallway, with no shoes being allowed to be worn upstairs. We provide freshly washed slippers to keep you comfy.

If you have any questions about this, please ask.

In line with current COVID rules, you are asked to minimise your time in shared spaces, and to open the windows when possible. You are required to follow government guidelines during your stay with us, so please check these before your stay.

Please do not ask me about current U.K. restrictions. These are available for you to find for travel from your country on the U.K. Government website.

Guest access
You can use the kitchen, lounge, bathroom and your room. We have storage for a bike in the back garden with a tarpaulin if you need it.

KITCHEN

You will have a shelf in the fridge and a shelf in the cupboard for your things.
Please keep the kitchen tidy by cleaning up after yourself. Please wash your dishes after you use them - we are not especially strict with this rule, so long as you don’t use up all the pans and plates!

Once every few months we may use the kitchen to get our hair cut. We have an amazing hairdresser, so if you want to use her, just ask for her number. During this time, the kitchen will be out of use to guests, usually during the day for less than two hours.

BATHROOM

We share a bathroom. We are each responsible for cleaning it after use.

TAKE AWAY FOOD

If you plan to get take-away, p[lease let us know in advance if it will be later than 10pm. Please wait at the door for the delivery, so that the delivery doesn’t wake people up.

If there's anything you need, just ask and we will do our best to help. It’s our home and we share with you, so that you are comfortable. We hope you will enjoy your stay with us.

Other things to note
We're a busy household - you may have the house to yourself for some of your stay. I work from home sometimes so will be busy during the daytimes and some evenings during your stay, which means that whilst I will respond as soon as possible, sometimes this isn’t immediate.

We aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. If this means leaving you to yourself, we are happy with that, but if there is something you need, please ask.

ARE YOU TALL?

Another guest has mentioned that the bed may be short for anyone over 6ft. Our beds are a standard size, so if you're super tall, you may want to think about whether it will suit you.

ARE YOU A COLD PERSON?

If you are coming to the U.K. from a warm country, then the U.K. will probably feel cold to you. Make sure you pack enough warm clothes and some slippers.

The house is Edwardian - it has high ceilings. It is heated to 19 degrees during the day and 20.6 degrees in the morning for two hours and in the evening for three hours. This is run off a central thermostat.

You may borrow or bring your own oil-filled radiator for which there will be a charge of £5 per day due to the additional cost of electricity to run it. The radiator should always be turned off when you are out of the room.

VISITORS

You may not have visitors to enter or stay at the property. This is for security, health and safety of everyone at the property.

If you stay with us you will experience family life in a Manchester suburb. Where we live feels really safe (to me) and I have always felt it's a nice place to live. We've lived here for over 14 years.

We have a community library close by, and the city is easy to access by public transport.

Within 1 mile we have 3 supermarkets - Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's. There is a lovely community library five minute's walk from the house. We have a takeaway around the corner, next to a bakery and post office. 2 miles away we have a small out of town shopping area with shops like H&M, M&S, Sportsdirect, Clark's etc.

Opposite our house we have a lovely tree-lined park and just down the road there is Debdale Park with a reservoir, which you can run around and where you can also sail.

Reddish Vale Country Park is a 20 minute walk away and it is a gem - it leads out to the countryside, so is great for a long, quiet walk.

Climber with a love of the outdoors and a passion for adventure. Love: Food, People, Adventure, Travel, Helping people. Recent adventures include running a marathon in Mozambique and summiting Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. As a traveller I am happy to go cheap and light - the experience of meeting people is the most important thing. As a host I'm pretty laissez faire and I'm happy to help you if you want assistance or to leave you in peace if you prefer to be left alone. We're an active household - climbing, horse riding, running etc, so if you're into the outdoors I'd love to show you around. Manchester is a stunning and wondrous city - I love it and love to share it with people. We're only about 4 miles from the city centre - 2 mins from a bus stop, so access to the city is easy. I also have a bike you can borrow, if you'd like to explore on two wheels. You can get into the Peak District in about 40 minutes on a bike. I'm a qualified and insured rock climbing instructor, so if you need someone to show you the ropes, ask me about courses and days out in the beautiful English countryside. Reading is another passion. I have a good collection of books, so anyone staying with us is welcome to browse and enjoy the collection. Ice cream is one of my favourite things - good quality chocolate ice cream just can't be beaten! Any more questions, just ask.

During your stay
We love having guests and will be very happy to help you during your stay, whether that is finding somewhere nice to eat or checking out what's on in Manchester.

The Peak District is close by, so if you want to get out and see more we can help with that too.

Our speciality is welcoming guests who are first time travellers to the UK, helping to make your start here a good one.

We are an active family and rise early, usually awake and showering by 6.15am, which means quiet time from 10pm is important.

I'm available via text, email and phone for you - usually from 8am to 8pm. I may or may not be present at home during your stay, but will always be close by and available for information and support if you need it.
