Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
There's 200 years of history in our cosy little cottage. Part of the original village cross and formerly ‘Bab’s Shop’, it is now a one bedroom haven.
There's wonderful walks from the doorstep and it's a great base to explore the cities and sights of central Scotland.
Our quiet & lovely village pub, The Swan is open Friday- Monday. It was the first community owned pub in Scotland and has recently had a major refurbishment. Be sure to book ahead, it’s popular!

The space
This is a ground-floor converted stone cottage in the quiet village of Banton. There's a king size bed in the bedroom (with a super comfy mattress) and the ottoman sofa bed is single size and can accommodate an additional guest. The kitchen/dining/living area is semi open plan and there's an outdoor patio at the back if you're lucky enough to enjoy some Scottish sunshine.

There's a quiet community owned pub right across the road which also includes a nice restaurant. It’s open from Friday to Monday and you can book in for a meal or just pop over for a drink and a piece of cake.

Although you can "get away from it all" here, we’re in a fabulous location for exploring all the attractions of central Scotland. You’re just 8 minutes drive from the M80 which is a gateway to the cities, historic sites and Highlands of Scotland. You’ll be spoilt for choice.

We're 25 minutes drive from Glasgow, 50 minutes from Edinburgh, 20 minutes from Stirling and 45 minutes from Loch Lomond.

There are also gorgeous walks right on your doorstep with Banton Loch, The Colzium Lennox Estate and the Forth and Clyde canal an easy distance away.

For groceries there is is a a Co-op in Haggs if you're coming from Junction 7 on the M80 or a Lidl and a Co-op in Kilsyth if you're arriving from that direction. Alternatively you can get home delivery from most major supermarkets.

Please note for your groceries that the freezer space is fairly small (an ice box in the fridge).

Guest access
You'll have the whole ground floor of the cottage to yourself.
You'll have a neighbour on the upper floor of the cottage so please be aware that you will hear footsteps from time to time.
There's a small decked area out the back with table and chairs. You'll have this deck to yourself but again please be mindful that you have neighbours to either side.
They’re lovely people and many of our guests have mentioned them as one of the highlights of their stay.

Other things to note
Tin Lid Cottage doesn’t have a tv as standard as we like to offer our guests the opportunity to slow down, unwind and enjoy life at village pace for a while. If that feels like a step too far don’t worry, we have a tv available on request!

The Wifi is super-fast (72Mbps for people who know about these things) and extends throughout the cottage.

The sofa bed in the living room is single sized and is a (very comfortable) ottoman sofa bed.

Neighbourhood highlights

This is a lovely Scottish village in the Kilsyth/Campsie foothills. There's a (quiet) community owned pub across the road with a nice cosy cafe/restaurant. The village also has a friendly shop, ‘Banton’s Express’ just along the road. There are tennis courts (honesty box donation), bowling club (for members), basketball court (free to use) and a new kids' playground. You can walk around Banton Loch, through the Colzium Estate (with waterfalls and lovely walled garden) and into Kilsyth (with the option to get the bus back). Or you can do a circular route up to High Banton and back. Or you can walk east out of the village then down to the canal and along it before coming back up to Banton again.

Lives in Nairobi, Kenya
For seven years my family and I lived next door to Tin Lid Cottage and Keppochhill and it was our absolute pleasure to welcome all our lovely guests from all walks of life and all over the world to the beautiful village of Banton. Life has now taken us to Nairobi, Kenya and the care of our beloved cottages is in the careful hands of Dylan. We wish you every happiness in your stay here.
