Description

The space

While this space is perfect for anyone who wants a get-away--a place to relax, meditate, go fishing, write, listen to birds or the chance to see a bald eagle--the unique attraction and outstanding quality here is the river. There is a gentle walk-down path to an outdoor fireplace and to the water from your patio.

Inside is a studio-style main room. The kitchen area has a full-size refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, hot plates, pots/pans/dishes, toaster, and convection oven. Pantry and fridge are stocked with all the basics and much more. A multi-purpose table with two chairs allows you to eat inside and watch the river, or use it as a work space/desk.
View tv or the flicker of flames from an electric fireplace from the soft micro suede couch. The HDTV is a 45" flat screen with cable (including espn), netflix, DVD player. DVDs, games, books, and puzzles available. Phone provided for domestic calls.

The bedroom has a view of the river, too, and a queen-sized bed, ample closet/hanging space, and a bureau. For additional sleeping in the main room, there's a chaise style couch (31x71) that converts to a twin-sized bed. A self-inflating twin mattress can be used for a fourth person.

The bathroom includes a tiled rain shower. Around the corner is a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board.

Radiant floor heating through-out the apartment, and it stays nice and cool in the summers. Bedroom is air-conditioned in the summer. Modern ventilation system throughout home keeps air clean and fresh.

Guest access

The apartment is on the lower level of the house, and has it's own keyed entry door facing the river. Your privacy is important (We live above in the upper levels and access the house from the road side.) You have your own patio space and "back yard." Feel free to come and go as you please.

Interaction with guests

Most likely, we will be around when you are and available for questions, concerns, assistance. Some people enjoy socializing, others like autonomy, and we take our cues from you! Most importantly, we want you to feel like the place/space is yours.

Check-in time is flexible as long as you don't mind letting yourself in. We can make arrangements that work best for you.

On occasion, we may not be on site during check-in or the duration of your stay, and will provide instruction ahead of time. I'm always available via text or call for any questions or concerns you might have.

The neighbourhood

The Odyssey is on state-maintained route 5, Connecticut River Road, which is home to several small organic vegetable farms and farm stands, a few dairy cows, maple syrup producers, a Christmas tree farm, and mostly year-round inhabitants. This 10-mile stretch of road connects the towns of Windsor, Weathersfield, and Springfield.

Within 10 minutes is a small grocery store, several local restaurants, bike trails, Mount Ascutney. Okemo, Dartmouth/Hanover is 35 minutes away.

Getting around

Amtrak station in Windsor, VT about 7 miles away. Airport in Lebanon, NH, with car rental available. It would take some coordination around schedules, but reach out if you are interested in coming via public transportation versus car. I may be able to be your Uber driver.

Other things to note

Companion animals are considered additional guests. When you book the space, please include them in your count. For instance, if there are two people and a dog, you are three guests total.

Liz's home is right on the Connecticut river. Every morning you can have your coffee (she's got that covered) sitting outside listening to water and birds. The actual living space is really comfortable. The pitch dark bedroom (don't worry, she provides nightlights (and a fan (she thinks of everything)) and mattress provided the best sleep we had in ages. I'd absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away for a relaxing trip, and hope we can return soon.

I stayed in the river-level apartment at Liz' house for a week while I was taking a class locally. I loved being able to eat my breakfast while looking out across and up the river. The apartment came stocked with eggs, fruit, popcorn and snacks, which I ate my way through while I was there! Liz was very friendly, helpful, and accessible through my entire stay. It was great that she was right there to help with any questions I had too. I loved that the apartment came with yak trax to pull over your shoes to help walk around the driveway/paths in case they got icy at all, though Liz sanded the paths diligently! The location was beautiful, and the ability to drive to nearby towns and areas for hiking/snowshoeing was fantastic too. Though I was in the area for work, the location was great for a very cozy and quiet getaway. I'd definitely consider returning if I'm in the area again!

My girlfriend and I had our first stay here in Vermont for our Valentine's Day weekend, and everything was perfect from the time we got there until the very end. Nothing was short of spectacular! Including the stocked fridge with food items, butter, eggs, Vermont Maple syrup, waffles, water, as well as snacks for our stay, coffee, spices, pots/pans, juices, and it just made it so inviting. The atmosphere was cozy, comfortable, and so peaceful. The bed was a 5 out of 5 comfort level. The shower is amazing with double-heads after coming back from a long day of skiing. The surround sound while watching a movie gives it a theater-like effect. The walkway down to the river is really a site to see. The electric fireplace and heated floors were a plus as well. Liz & Leslie were very personable, warm, & excellent communicators. If you want that cabin-like feel get-a-way, then come to Liz & Leslie's for sure!

My husband and I were looking to get away from the city life for a weekend, and this was exactly what we needed. Liz's place has a beautiful sunset view every morning and a quiet cabin feel.. and convenient enough a location to nearby towns. We never drove more than half an hour to anything we were looking for (antiques, country stores, the grocery). Liz was super responsive whenever we had questions.. we found the house on the road per very clear directions even in the dark, check-in was a breeze, and the house warmed up to super toasty very quickly! Floor tiles were warmed (my favorite part!) throughout the unit, it could not have been more comfortable and cozy even with incredible views of a frozen river just a few feet away outside.. We successfully made breakfasts and dinners throughout our stay with various appliances available in the kitchen- had everything we needed! Can't wait to come back in the summer so we can enjoy the river even more.. Thank you for a great stay Liz!

Liz User ProfileLiz is a superhost.

I grew up in Virginia, moved to Massachusetts for college, and have been in New England ever since. Vermont is by far my favorite place to live and experience the unique beauty of each season.
After years of enjoying home-sharing as a guest, it's been delightful to open up my place as a host. I live here with my partner and a myriad of wild, wonderful critters. We love all-things-water and sun. When we're not moseying down the river, we're on the ocean in Ogunquit or Provincetown.
