I wasn’t quite sure how to rate this. It was a pretty bad AirBnB experience, but I hope it was an exception for Molly and Garrick, the owners. Here is what happened:
I made a 2 week reservation for my parents. Just before their arrival, M&G contacted me. They said they would have to delay the start of the reservation because their cleaning service cancelled. My parents would be arriving from overseas Friday, and M&G said everything would be clean and ready starting Saturday. I asked if my parents could just sleep in the place with it dirty for just that one night because we couldn’t find anything else. Molly and Garret agreed, and offered to refund $100 for that night. No one came to clean on Saturday, either.
They said there’d been trouble with the lock box. They said someone would clean on Monday instead. I asked what time; no reply. Monday, my parents got up early to be out of the way of the cleaners. They rented a car, packed up all their things, and left. That night they found that no one had shown up.
Then M&G indicated that cleaning would take place on Thursday (a week after my parent’s arrival). At that point, my parents found a room well outside of Cambridge, and asked M&G to inform them when the cleaning was done. They told &G that they were quite unhappy with the situation and the house wasn’t clean enough to be fully useable. The kitchen was far too dirty to use, and dog hair was everywhere. There was a lot of food on the stove, and my Mom would not use it. My parents cleaned the bathroom the first night (I won’t even go into that nightmare).
My parents arranged to stay elsewhere until that Thursday. They asked M&G if they were sure that it would be cleaned by Thursday, or if they could refund the next week, and my parents would stay elsewhere. M&G were sure, and it was finally cleaned Thursday.
My parents paid for three nights at a B&B while simultaneously paying M&G for the rental. I requested that the cleaning fee be refunded, but they never replied, nor offered any further compensation.
I like AirBnB, but I my parents will never use it again. They are perfect tenants. Since I arranged this stay, I was quite embarrassed. M&G are nice people, but probably should not be in the AirBnB rental pool.
-Replies to questions, if answered at all, took from 24 hours to a few days.
-Very low shower water pressure.
-Quiet, safe location
-There were no instructions left for anything.
-Remodeled kitchen with a dishwasher and a washer/dryer (a big bonus).
-Bed is a mattress on the floor. It was comfortable, but could be a problem for some.
-There are only a couple of rooms on each floor. The third floor, where the bed is, is a converted attic. The bathroom is on the second floor.
