This quaint cabin is nestled between two very old barns built over 100 years ago in a rustic setting. The cabin has two rooms with high wooden open beam ceilings which makes the cabin feel larger then it is. The kitchette, has a toaster oven, electric tea pot, coffee bodum, blender and small refrigerator; convenient for the preparation of simple foods and beverages. The bedroom has a very comfortable queen size bed and goes out to the small fenced backyard with a small deck and sitting area.

The space

Our little cabin is close to many wonderful activities and amenities - City of Nelson 20 minute drive along the beautiful lake, approximately 30 minutes to Ainsworth Hot springs, 12 minutes to Kokanee National Park and the Zip line, 20 minutes to the longest distance, free of cost ferry in the world, 45 minutes to Kaslo, the biggest smallest city on the lake and about 40 minute to the Whitewater Ski Resort turnout.

During the late spring and summer we have a canoe and two kayaks which may be borrowed if you have a way to get them to the lake. You must also have a whistle with you while on the lake, the water is very cold!

This quaint, 300 square foot cabin is nestle between two very old barns built over 100 years ago in a rustic setting. The space is sweet, quiet and relaxing. The cabin has two rooms with high wooden open beam ceilings, a small room with an armoire and little bathroom. The natural unpainted wood for the interior was carefully salvaged from the previous owner's sister’s heritage barn; one can easily see this cabin was built with love.

Passing through the front door, you enter the kitchen and sitting room, bright and pleasant, with two big skylights and a large and small window, a cheery room. The kitchenette, has a toaster/convection oven, electric tea pot, coffee bodum, blender and small refrigerator; convenient for the preparation of simple foods and beverages.

The kitchenette and sitting area also has a stereo system with a CD player. In the bedroom you will find a comfortable queen size bed, a cabinet and a sink to freshen up and a armorer to hang and place your clothes. The small bathroom has a shower, there is a high end Separett compostable toilet which is odorless and emptied after each guest leaves. Through the backdoor is a small deck and sitting area, another beautiful view of the mountains, and the sound of gentle water falling into the fish pond.
Washer is available upon request, it is in the main house.
We are dog friendly and have provided a small fenced area in the back sitting area. We have dogs and cats of our own and Carola is often available for dog sitting.

Guest access

Covered parking in front of cabin

Interaction with guests

We are usually around the house. Guests are welcome and we encourage them to contact us anytime with ideas, questions, and concerns.

Other things to note

The cabin is rural and in the mountains and during certain times of the year there are some bugs and insects. What we see mostly around here are larger black ants, wood beetles, dragon flies, pollinating bees and honey bees and during the summer flies, yellow jackets and wasps.

A very clean, comfortable and peaceful setting that provides everything you might need on your stay , they were very nice and friendly, the compost toilet is a interesting ecological alternative. When I next travel in the area I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

My husband and I stayed at Carola and Skip’s place for 2 weeks, which is the longest stay to date at their cabin. Carola and Skip are outstanding hosts and could not have been more reasonable and accommodating. They were respectful of our privacy and vice versa so the length of our stay did not feel at all crowded or cramped. We brought our 11 year old AK Malamute, who isn’t “high maintenance” (at least for a malamute), but has considerations as a part of her breed. Carola and Skip are clearly animal lovers and our dog was very comfortable staying there. We were very appreciative of how they accommodated our older dog, which included access to their larger yard and garden space. Carola and Skip have outfitted the cabin with an array of thoughtful details making the smaller space feel very homey and easy to live in. The kitchenette does not have a stove so we brought a 2-burner propone stove, which we set up outside on the deck in order to prevent odors accumulating in the living space. We had no problem cooking for ourselves outside with our car camping stove, but I might suggest setting up a table under the carport so it isn’t necessary to walk through the bedroom in order to get to the cooking area on the back deck from the kitchenette. Carola and Skip also provided a small propane grill for guest use. The compost toilet is definitely part of a newer generation of compost toilets and was clean and easy to use. For 2 people, I suggest having it changed every 4 days or so, but it’s at your discretion. Carola is very easy to approach about obtaining clean towels, clean bed sheets, changing the compost toilet, etc. at the frequency of your choosing. Carola provided several accurate suggestions on great places to eat, where to buy groceries, etc. and voluntarily researched places where we had questions. I needed some acupuncture when I arrived, and Carola set me up with an excellent referral. Overall, we were very happy with our stay in Nelson and would absolutely stay with Carola and Skip again.

Our stay at Carola and Skip's little cabin is by far one of my favourite AirBnB experiences. The cabin is a perfect place for a couple or single traveller. It's close to Nelson and it's amenities, but out in the countryside and away from the bustle. It's a great location to access hiking trails, beaches, the lake and other cool destinations in the area. Carola and Skip are also wonderful hosts; you couldn't ask for better! You can count on us staying at Carola and Skip's place the next time we find ourselves in the area!

Carola and Skip were such warm and welcoming hosts! The cabin was the perfect size for two of us and our pup and they recommended an amazing dog friendly beach that we spent a lot of our trip at. The composting toilet was very easy to use and eco friendly :)

Carola and Skip were the ultimate hosts. They were communicative, helpful, welcoming and kind. I travelled to Nelson on my own and felt safe at all times, i even extended my stay. The neighbourhood was great too. I had pictured it as very remote but that was not the case. There are cabins all along the road close by each other but with enough space you didn't feel crowded. It was quiet and ever so relaxing. The cabin was perfect for me and had a nice surround system so i could listen to music. A nice small patio to have breakfast in while taking in a beautiful view. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Great hosts! If you have a dog, this is the place to go. Beautiful spot just up the road from nelson. The cabin is totally separate from the house and there is a little private porch and yard out back to look at the mountain and hang out with your pup. Fantastic attention to detail with all the things you might need for a comfortable stay.

Hello, five years ago we moved with our five animal friends; three dogs and two cats, from Victoria B.C. to beautiful Nelson B.C. because we wanted to live a quieter life. We both had lived most of our lives in smaller towns or city neighborhoods, within walking distance of the Pacific Ocean and now live on the North Shore of Nelson enjoying our surroundings, way of life, and occupations. We are both professionally educated and trained health practitioners who enjoy sharing our experiences, helping others, help themselves and their animal friends.
