Our home is close to the Potomac River and provides a respite from the bustle of Washington, DC. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping within 15 minutes drive if desired. You’ll love our place because of the ambiance, the outdoors space, the neighborhood, and the comfy beds. This private guest suite is good for couples, solo adventurers and business travelers.

The space

Private entry. Oversized guest room. Luxurious en suite shower and bathroom. Cleanliness and quality.

Guest access

Private guest suite with adjacent lounge. Plenty of outdoor sanctuary with ample seating. Discrete childrens play set and sandbox.

Interaction with guests

Rarely. I try to introduce myself to you and you to your accommodations , then get out of your way. I am available if you have questions or needs, but pretty much let you reside independently from me and my family. Our dog, Ichiban, may be a more frequently seen face.

Other things to note

There is no kitchen access with the room, but if you need an early cup of coffee/tea/juice, let us know so we can accommodate. Most guests eat breakfast out in town.

This place is guest room connected to the back of the house. The room is clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower is clean. Very quiet area. It was a bit chilly at night but there is a portable heater for you to use or you can use the thick blankets thats already on the bed. I would stay here again. Thanks Tina!

It's a matter of Upstairs/Downstairs. This lovely home selling point is that it is situated in an upscale neighborhood of manicured lawns and large wooded lots. The reality is this a downstairs basement room (not a suite in any way) located directly beneath the main family room, with its hardwood floors resounding every movement from above. You are aware of conversations, the television, the movement (running) of young children and their dog, and that they are up at dawn bustling to get their day under way, but also watching television until 1 a.m. Waiting until the host’s film was over to be awakened by running children and the dog is disrespectful. The room is a room with nothing to recommend it, and hand-me-down linens are given to the guests. It's large, dark, it's only window (and outside door) shaded by the deck above on the main floor. The truly surprising thing is the lack of consideration and basic amenities. Consider that there is no place to sit but the (two) beds and a useless chaise lounge without a reading light, that your only other option is to sit on the foot of the bed to view a small tv screen across the room. You could go out to the childrens’ playroom, but again no reading light. No water glasses in the bathroom, that you are miles from any town or store and no thought given to a coffee maker and piece/basket of fruit for the morning. The host did offer to make us coffee, and also offered plastic glasses and a couple of cereal bowls upon request. There is a refrigerator in the hallway outside that can be used. The dog is fine and cute but jumped on me five times the first night before snagging my clothing and ripping my new coat. From the reviews and photographs I expected more, especially for the money they charge, compared to other nearby places. If the room had been priced like other nearby places, I would not have expected more. But at prices like this, some basics should be included. Possibly the owners will address these deficiencies, but still consider a nearby motel for a better night's sleep.

Response from Tina:
Dear Shelly, I'm sorry that you did not have a pleasant stay with us. It is indeed an active household and I'm sorry that left you with difficulty sleeping. Future guests should take note that the house is occupied by children, adults and a dog, who all keep their separate hours. While the guestroom suite is indeed separate and private, it is not soundproof. In terms of the accommodations of the room itself, it is indeed an oversize guest suite which was renovated four years ago with quality materials. The bedroom itself is at least 20 x 20', freshly tiled and carpeted. The bathroom is probably another 10 x 8'. While the linens and towels are used (this is a guest room), they are of reasonable quality. They certainly were specially cleaned for your arrival as was the entire bedroom and bath. I am sorry that you had difficulty reading in the guest room. There is an abundance of overhead lights on dimmers. There are several lamps in the guest room which you could have rearranged to accommodate your preferences and needs. If that was not enough, why did you not tell Larry or I that you needed additional lamps or seating in the room? If you do not communicate, I cannot know what you need. You were also very welcome to use the entire lounge area in the extensive common area on the ground level. There were countless other places you could have sat to read. I am sorry that, unlike Goldilocks, you were unable to find a chair that suited you. There were indeed bathroom drinking cups in the bathroom drawers, but apparently you did not find them. There are also lots of toiletries for guests. Again sorry this was not obvious or you did not find them. Why didn't you speak up? On the Airbnb listing, I try to make it clear that we are a 15 minute drive or so from town and since you seemed familiar with the area, I thought you understood this. We are indeed "in the woods". It is not really in my interest to develop a second kitchen on the lower level, and that is why you were offered coffee and breakfast upstairs. Many people do you prefer to eat in the guestroom or on the lower level, and that is fine, provided you understand that there is no kitchen there and that all the dishes need to be cleaned upstairs. In any case, it is disappointing that you were unhappy for the many days that you stayed at the Luxurious Potomac Guest Suite. I wish you would have spoken up while you were staying with us rather than holding it all in for this review… Kindest regards, Tina Cervieri

Gorgeous home! Spacious room. Check-in was very smooth, even though we arrived later than we initially planned. Their flexibility & communication was greatly appreciated. We commuted to DC both using a mix of our car & transit, & just the car. We drove to the Shady Grove Metro stop one day (there were a couple stops nearby, but this had the most parking& we went on Inauguration/Women's March weekend). Took about 20 minutes to drive to Shady Grove, typically under $6 to park (although we didn't have to pay for some reason), & it was another 40 minutes into DC. When we just drove to DC, it only took half an hour. The home itself is beautiful& out in a quiet suburban area surrounded by trees. Perfect if you want to visit the city, but not stay there. Oh & their dog, Ichi, is adorable! & the sweetest, friendliest dog ever. He regularly greeted us upon leaving or arriving. If that's not enough for you, the room's connecting bathroom has a rain shower. Drop mic. I'd definitely stay here again.

This place is awesome! Hosts were very accommodating. Room and adjacent living area were very private and very comfortable. Best value for the price we have experienced with Airbnb. Highly recommended!
