Castle view apartment has recently been renovated to a very high standard and has everything you should need for a great stay in Edinburgh.
You could not stay more centrally than this historic spot in Edinburgh. The city of Edinburgh is a World Heritage Site; the Grassmarket was the central market square (and site of public hangings!) for the Old Town of Edinburgh with 500 years of history and architecture ranging from the 17th to the 21st century.... The Grassmarket area The apartment building itself, ‘Porteous Pend’ is named after captain Porteous, captain of the guard who was hanged in 1736, after the Porteous Riots.
The Grassmarket area has been recently renovated as a bustling tourist area with a friendly, local vibe and offers an array of great independent shops, restaurants and bars. The Grassmarket is proud of its café culture and is a great area to spend an afternoon relaxing and people-watching.....
The best feature of the apartment is the view of the Edinburgh Castle!
There is no smoking in the apartment. It is on the first floor so it is not far to walk down the stairs outside to have a cigarette.
Please keep music noise level down after 10:30pm to respect the neighbours, the apartment block has some long term residents and other holiday guests.
Our stay with Fleur was very pleasant and exactly what we were after: a clean, comfortable flat in an excellent central location. Our train got in quite late but this was no hassle at all as we just picked up keys from pub across the road. We could tell Fleur had done this many times before, which was reassuring. We were 3 girls who went just for 2 nights, so the size was great for that. Wifi, heating, hot water all worked perfectly. I would definitely consider staying here again and would recommend it to other small groups of 2-3. Also, if you get a chance to check out Godive, her boutique just 2 mins' away, do!! Very cool stuff.
It is a perfect warm house with beautiful castle view and all the equipment is nice. Host is really nice and willing to deal with any questions we may have. The position is near to almost all famous sites and also near the train station and airport bus. I indeed u to consider the great house if u r planning to visit Edinburgh :)
Great experience in the perfect location. Fleur is very kind and considerate and answered all of our questions quickly and thoroughly. Room is easy to find and instructions for use are clear and simple to follow. Plenty of restaurants, pubs and shops just outside the flat. The castle is a 10 minute walk. We did one of those Scottish Highlands day tours that also picked up just at the base of the castle as well. The area is safe and secure. The kitchen is also very easy to use - we took advantage of this and made breakfast each morning. Grocery store is also very close by. Will look to stay here again if Edinburgh is on our future travel agenda. Thanks Fleur!
A truly great 1 bedroom flat in a fabulous location with spectacular views of the castle. Nicely decorated and spotlessly clean throughout.
Fantastic apartment ... Great location. Excellent view of the castle. Host was brilliant. Highly recommended.
Fleur's apartment is in a fantastic location - perfect for the lovely places of Grassmarket (e.g. Mary's Milk Bar and Hula Juice Bar [round the corner on West Bow]) as well as the rest of the town. It's also not far from any bus you might need (e.g. to the Zoo!), and is walkable from the station. The apartment was exactly as described: comfortable, clean, and with a wonderful view of the castle from the living room. I collected the key from someone friendly and helpful at Fleur's boutique, and Fleur gave us the option of storing our luggage there on the day we checked out, though we chose to leave it at the Left Luggage place at the station as we wanted to climb Arthur's Seat before we left. The apartment is up a short flight of stairs, which was perfectly manageable with our luggage. The living room looks on to Grassmarket, which can be nicely bustly, but the bedroom is perfectly calm and quiet, facilitating a good night's sleep well. The kitchen has the basics you'd need to cook and serve a meal, though there are lots of places to explore in Edinburgh (we must recommend Meze Meze on Rose Street for dinner, Social Bite on Rose Street for a quick lunch, and Bramble and Panda & Sons, both [rather hidden] on Queen Street, for cocktails). Fleur is a lovely, friendly, communicative host, and we'd certainly recommend her apartment. Thanks, Fleur!
We had a great time at the apartment. It's in a wonderful location and the view of the castle was amazing! Fleur wasn't there to give us the keys to the apartment, but a really sweet girl working at Fleur's shop gave them to us. She also gave us great advice for where to eat and shop in the neighborhood. When the heat wasn't coming on, they were very quick to fix the problem. It might be a tiny bit smaller than it seems in photos, but it was adorable! Overall, it was a great experience.
Originally from the Scottish Highlands but have lived in Edinburgh for most my life so have great local knowledge of the city and run my own independent fashion boutique in the city centre. Traveled to most parts of the globe and still plan to travel to the rest. Studied Anthropology, have a love of independent cinema and red wine.
