About this listing

The Mews is a semi detached cottage situated in a private 40 acre estate with panoramic views of the Lake of Menteith, with wood burning stove, private covered patio, gas barbecue, freesat TV, DVD player, docking station, White Company linen. Guests have free access to a swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, gym, squash courts and full-sized snooker table at a spa ten minutes drive away. Guests also have a 10% discount on dining at the fabulous Lake Hotel a mile from the cottage.

The space

The estate of Mondhui is situated within the Trossachs and Loch Lomond National Park. The Trossachs is Scotland's "Lake district". Mondhui itself has been a settlement since prehistoric times and above the property there are “cup and rings” markings. Within the grounds is a duck flighting pond which is ideal for bird watchers and beside the cottage there is a small pond. The area is a haven for birds and other wildlife including osprey, red kites, red squirrels, red deer, pine marten and badgers. From the door of the cottage you can walk directly up into the Menteith Hills and join the Rob Roy Way with hundreds of miles of forest track easily accessible. The cottage is furnished in a contemporary, country style with handmade wooden kitchen units, granite worktops and solid oak flooring throughout.
It is in the perfect setting for those who love outdoor pursuits including walking, cycling, golf, pony trekking and fishing - the Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s premier trout fishing venue. It is also a great location for those simply wanting to chill out and enjoy the fabulous view of the lake from the covered porch, courtyard or from the comfy couch in front of the wood burner. Nick Nairn’s famous Cook School is only a few minutes drive away as is the popular Lake Hotel which serves good food at the lakeside. This is an ideal location from which to explore one of Scotland’s most picturesque areas or to use as a base to tour central Scotland. Within 10 minutes from the cottage you can be in Aberfoyle, Callander, the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park at the David Marshall Lodge or taking a sail on the Sir Walter Scott steamship on Loch Katrine.
Stirling with its ancient castle is twenty minutes away. Scenic Loch Lomond, is only half an hour from the cottage. Gleneagles is 40 minutes drive. The cosmopolitan city of Glasgow is less than an hour’s drive with Perth and Edinburgh just over an hour away. There are many historic buildings, castles and distilleries to visit in the area. Shop 4 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

The photos do not do this property justice! It is simply WONDERFUL. The property is equipped with everything you could need, it feels homely and cosy and the fire is a real treat. The view is incredible, and we really enjoyed sitting at the windows of The Mews looking out over it. But the real difference of this property is the friendliness and hospitality of Laura and Ronnie, who are keen to offer their tips and advice for walks, sites and amenities in the area - they made us feel very welcome. Thank you Laura and Ronnie - we hope to return!

This property far exceeded our expectations. The hosts are wonderful people and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The gorgeous location is better than the photos. The property is ideally situated to tour The Trossachs and yet close to Edinburgh and Glasgow and surrounds. The hosts have gone out of their way to provide first class amenities, both inside and outside. A welcome package included the essentials and a bottle of wine. Ronnie's scones were a much appreciated treat! The hosts were able to recommend drives in the area, restaurants and shops that offered discounts and local knowledge that is invaluable to the tourist. The experience was really like staying with old friends and we would have loved to have had longer to stay with these lovely people.

Thanks Vicki, It was a pleasure to meet you both and one of these days we will visit Ronnie's relatives in Perth, Australia and will give you a call! We hope you enjoy the rest of your trip to Ireland. After telling you about the red deer who did not put in an appearance during your stay about ten of them appeared this evening so we are sorry you missed them - as we say they are not animal actors so are unpredictable!

OUTSTANDING VIEWS, COTTAGE, AND HOSTS This is one of the best Airbnb places we stayed at. Situated in a perfectlyV secluded location, we enjoyed the cottage as a base for exploring the amazing Trossachs and Loch Lomond, with walks starting at your door step and leading to popular routes such as the Rob Roy Way. From the hills high above the lake of Menteith, this is one of the most beautiful views to wake up to or watch the sunset with dinner or a drink on the porch. The cottage is very tastefully decorated, quite spacious, and self contained with high end appliances, furnishings and furniture. The hosts Laura and Ronnie personify legendary Scottish hospitality; they are warm, friendly and very knowledgeable of all aspects of the area - from history, to walks, food, and places to visit.

I am an Advocate (Scottish barrister) and am passionate about justice. I have also set up a tourism business with two holiday cottages in the grounds of my home which is a small private Estate of 40 acres in the Trossachs with beautiful views of the Lake of Menteith. I work hard and love to travel in my free time. I have travelled all over the world and am very discerning and love to find quality at a reasonable price! I have an apartment in Cannes in the south of France but my favourite winter destination is Barbados which I have been visiting for over 30 years. As a host I want to provide the quality of accommodation I would be delighted to stay in myself. My style is modern country style and any visitors will find a warm welcome, beautiful views and comfortable accommodation. We have an agreement with a local hotel and spa ten minutes drive away that guests can use their facilities including swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, gym, squash courts and snooker table. We also are able to offer our guests a 10% discount on food and drink at the fabulous Lake Hotel at Port of Menteith.
