Home to an architect and an artist, our spacious apartment is located in Love Lane in the heart of Margate’s Old Town in a historic, flint-walled “Dutch house”, with cafes, restaurants and vintage shops on the doorstep; just two minutes’ walk to the sea and in close proximity to all the cultural and outdoors activities of the town.

The space
Beautiful, calm and luminous apartment in a unique early 18th Century house in the historic centre of Margate, one block distance from the beach and Turner Contemporary gallery.

BEDROOMS
By bookings of till 2 guests only the main bedroom will be prepared. The second bedroom will be closed off unless 3 or more people are booked to stay, or you specifically request that you would like two bedrooms, which includes an extra cost for the booking (see “Guest access” for more clarity).

With two good sized bedrooms available the apartment can accommodate up to 4 people depending on need.

The first larger bedroom comes with a queen-sized walnut surround bed, and our second medium-sized bedroom comes with a double bed. Both beds have very comfortable mattresses and we provide freshly-prepared white Egyptian cotton bedding and towels for all our visitors. We will leave 4 pillos and a duvet in the bedrooms; please let us know in case you need more. There is a nice view of the Old Town Hall & Museum and the Market Place from both bedrooms. The apartment also has a sitting/dining room with a sofa, a kitchen and a bathroom: each space has windows and plants making it very light and airy.

LIBRARY
The home library has a wide-ranging collection of books of literature, non-fiction, art, design, architecture and culture. We don’t have a TV, but we hope you will find some pleasure and inspiration in looking through our library.

DINING
The dining table seats four, and can be extended to six.

KITCHEN / EATING OUT
In the kitchen you will find a basic assortment of products and usual facilities for cooking, including an oven, so no need to bring anything unless you plan on doing something complex. Coffee and tea is provided, and 3 different coffee makers. There are also several great cafes and restaurants within meters of the apartment if you prefer not to cook. In the house manual you will find a constantly updated list of those we love, but we are always happy to provide further recommendations if you have more specific tastes/dietary requirements.

PLANTS
We love plants and we have plenty in each room including the bathroom. We invest a lot in keeping them in good condition because they bring an incredible good feeling inside our home. We will also leave you fresh flowers in each room (in occasions like weekends, high season and long bookings).

BATHROOM
The bathroom has a bath. Please note we do not have a shower or a shower attachment, so come prepared to enjoy the luxury of bathing.

INTERNET
Free, unlimited wireless internet is provided. We’ve ‘boosted’ the signal strength, so you can expect to enjoy excellent wifi coverage throughout the apartment.

WE HAVE
Radio/Alarm, Sound system.

WE DON'T HAVE
TV or TV License, Baby Cot, Hair dryer, Shower.

OLD TOWN
The home of JMW Turner during his trips to Margate has a good selection of cafes, restaurants, pubs, galleries and boutique shops. The Old Town is particularly well known for its large number of antique and up-cycled furniture shops, as well as artist-run shops and spaces which are all right on your doorstep. The majority of these shops are also open on a Sunday, so if you visit on the weekend there will be plenty to see and do for the duration of your stay. There is also a large Morrison's supermarket three minutes’ walk from the apartment for life's less pleasurable necessities. Being in the very centre of town does mean you can hear life outside, but given the location and design of the apartment outside noise is never intrusive and all the neighbouring bars and restaurants close before midnight.

BEACHES
Margate Sands, previously best known for Mods and Rockers clashes in the 60s is only a two minutes’ walk from the apartment. Today, the beach is a beautiful expanse of sand, stretching from the historic Royal Sea Bathing Hospital all the way up to the Turner Contemporary Gallery. From Margate Sands, walk east along the coast for two kilometres of solitary beaches and the Grade II Listed Walpole Bay Tidal Pool, where you will find the locals and a community of pride swimmers all year around. Past the Walpole Bay Hotel famous for its cream teas and you arrive at the beautiful and quiet Botany Bay.

TURNER CONTEMPORARY
The apartment is only two minutes’ walk from the Turner Contemporary gallery. Designed by Sir David Chipperfield, the gallery boasts an excellent exhibitions and public programme with late night events, workshops and live performances. The gallery cafe/restaurant is not to be missed with an excellent day and evening menu full of local produce and a great wine list to boot.

Hello, I'm Carlos, a Margate-based Colombian artist working in the fields of performing and visual arts, heritage activism, pedagogy and curating. My work happens often outside Margate and UK, so our house is often empty for you to stay in and help keep the plants watered. You may hear from either me or my architect husband Sam about the arrangements. If you are interested you can see both of our work in our websites Carlos Maria Romero and Sam Causer, where you will find other local interiors and architecture projects he has done. Sam's practice specialises in heritage, that is something both of us have a passion for. We also love our town and we work hard to keep it unique, fair and diverse. We are founders of Margate Coastal Park Promotion Group, a not-for-profit community group which aims are to develop a shared understanding of the history and significance of the continuous stretch of open space that lines the coast of Margate, including its potential as a heritage site of international importance and its value as a public park and amenity; and to celebrate and connect the diversity of contemporary user-groups associated with the Coastal Park, working with them to develop a shared agenda for the protection and enhancement of this public space and the rights and well-being of the community.

During your stay
We usually don't meet visitors on check-in and will normally leave the keys for the apartment in a secure place. This allows you to check-in at your own convenience after the agreed time. We encourage you to text or give us a call to let us know when you are arriving or that you have arrived and picked up the keys. This is also an opportunity for us to welcome you to Margate, run through the basics of the apartment if you need to, and for you to ask us any questions you might have about the apartment or Margate before you start your stay.
