David and Ting are very friendly and welcoming hosts! The location is great, very close to the Tha Phae Gate of the old town and lots of cafes and restaurants and gorgeous Wats close by. The house is just as shown - a traditional old classic teak Thai style with a serene garden. Thank you for a fantastic and friendly stay David, Ting and Victor (and Soda!) :)

We had a fantastic time in Chiang Mai. David's place is brilliant with good location. He helped us plan our day trips and recommended really nice restaurants near by. We would definitely recommend David's place for a great vacation.

We stayed in David’s apartment for 5 nights This place is awesome! It has got an amazing feel to it, with good sized and very authentic bedroom, a great yard where we spent most of our evenings and a welcoming host, who has got a lot of local knowledge. There are plenty of animals in the yard (a dog, cat, lizard and quite a few birds) which was great for our 3 year old. She also played with Victor (David’s son) which was an added bonus. We also found a really good sandwich place nearby - Hideout. Really recommend the greek sandwich. It is an authentic Thai place with basic amenities which is exactly what we were after, but if you are looking for a 5* hotel - try somewhere else.

David is really hospitality. Though the room is a bit dark, everything else is awesome.

This is a great retreat in the heart of Chiang Mai. The first thing you'll notice are the gardens which are amazing, cool, lush and welcoming. David, Ting and family will make you feel at home, provide great tips on places to visit, and even helped me brush up on my Thai. We were travelling with two kids (8 & 6 years old) and felt welcome and at ease. The place has been beautifully decorated and has a classic old Thai charm about it. You can walk to lots of places, and you can easily grab a tuk-tuks etc out on the street. Thailand can be pretty intense as a visitor, and having a cool, calm retreat to return to at the end of a day was a delight. Thanks David!

Pros: David's house is very well-located; we walked almost everywhere - several wats, Wararot market, Tha Phae Gate (the address on airbnb is confusing to pretty much everyone, though, so I recommend giving the address on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) - that worked better for us - just (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Baan Rao in Chiang Mai). David is a kind host and communicated quickly and positively. He also provided a baby cot (pack'n'play) for our toddler! Cons: It is hot and humid without a/c. Very hot. And the fans only do so much. Our clothes got wet on an excursion so we hung them in front of the fan for 24 hours and they didn't dry. We had 3 cockroach encounters in the bathroom. The entrance/garden area is infested with mosquitos and we saw a few in our bedroom. We didn't read carefully ahead of time and didn't realize the kitchen was shared! It actually is an outdoor kitchen behind the house that the family uses and we had cockroach, frog, gecko and mosquito encounters there. The common garden area is a bar of sorts, so there is a constant smell of cigarette smoke and booze. While traveling, we look forward to having our accommodations be a haven from the heat and bustle of the city; this was NOT a haven. We actually dreaded coming home to the heat, humidity and bugs.

David and his family were wonderful and very welcoming, helpful and hospitable. The price, location, check in, and communication were all great. The rooms were a little buggy and hot with just fans. The bunk beds were hard and a tad uncomfortable. It didn't quite feel like we had an entire apartment/house because it was connected to their house and we didn't have our own kitchen area, although we were able to use theirs if we wanted to. The common areas that we shared were always filled with a lot of friendly people. So it was noisey late into the night and in the morning because of the birds they own and the cage was right outside our window. Besides those few things we had a wonderful stay in chiang mai!
