House Rules

-The unit is best suited for and is set up for 1 or 2 people, though a 3rd can use the twin futon in the living area as a bed. Please contact us if you are interested in booking for 3 people as we may be able to accommodate you depending on the situation.
- Smoking is not allowed in the unit or anywhere on our property.
- We are child and infant "friendly" but the space is not baby-proof (especially the third floor exterior stair access!)
- We ask our guests to respect quiet hours between 8pm-8am. The apartment is a separate unit but it is on the third floor of our home. We are a busy family by day who loves our sleep at night!
- We ask your patience and kindness with our friendly dog and 2 children who you may cross paths with when coming/going from the backyard. We also need you to always latch the garden gate every time you come through so our pup doesn't escape!
- Extremely well behaved hypoallergenic dogs may be considered with extra pet deposit. Please contact us to discuss!
-We want to be sure folks realize there is no off-street parking provided for this rental. Overnight street parking is allowed in our neighborhood, and even in the height of the summer season there are usually parking spots available on our street or within a block or two. We are located very close to the village green where the free Island Explorer bus system can take you all over the Island and into Acadia National Park. Many guests park their car once and do not use it again until departure day!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Newton Nest and would gladly come again. The location is incredibly convenient to restaurants, shops, and the Island Explorer buses that traverse the island. Sarah (and Shawn) are warm, welcoming, and highly organized and responsible hosts. The apartment is delightful--just right for a single person or couple. It is spotless, well-appointed with a very comfortable bed, nice linens, great cookware, and new appliances. The decor is clean and uncluttered, with handsome wall colors, bedding and Sarah's lovely wave photos. Although it was not a concern for us, some might want to know that one has to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom. As far as we were concerned, however, it added to the old house charm!

What a gem! Newton Nest was, hands down, our best experience in Bar Harbor. Sarah and Shawn are warm and welcoming hosts, directions were accurate and description of place was spot on. Fabulous location and their recommendations for food and activities really helped us get the most out of our visit. The apartment is pristine and you get a lovely small deck to sit at and enjoy the view from up in the trees surrounding the house, kitchen is fully equipped, bed is super comfy with great linens, awesome shower, windows to let great light and breeze that kept us very comfortable throughout our stay. We were blessed to get to stay there and can't wait to go back!

Newton Nest is a cute little apartment on the third floor of a residential home. The location is very convenient, and Shawn and Sarah are excellent hosts. You will find that their description of the apartment is very accurate. The bed was really comfortable, and the linens were great quality. The three story stairs up to the entrance are a little daunting at first, but you soon get used to them. A good workout too. The place is great for 1 or 2 people.

Sarah and Shawn are awesome hosts! The "Newton Nest" is private, clean, cozy and the fully equipped kitchen offered us the option to eat out or stay in. It is very quiet and felt like being in a treehouse yet is within convenient walking distance of downtown shops, restaurants and services. It was perfect for our needs and Sarah and Shawn could not have been more accomodating.

Newton Nest was a great experience for us! It was the perfect location, where we could walk to Bar Harbor restaurants and drive easily to Acadia hikes. Newton Nest was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. We'll be back!

'Newton Nest' is delightful. Although it is at the top of the house there is private access clearly marked with lovely lights in the evening. Even in the hottest weather it was cool (with the windows open and/or with the fans provided). It is absolutely perfectly positioned for the restaurants, shopping and activities in Bar Harbor and only 2 minutes from the Island Explorer buses that go all over. Our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the Stand Up Paddleboarding on the ocean! The recommendations made by Sara and Shawn were very helpful. We liked Blaze (pizza) and McKays (finer dining) and the Sidestreet Cafe (lovely lunches). We sampled MDI, Jordan Pond and Ben and Bill's ice cream and can honestly say they are all delicious. MDI's flavours are less traditional/more experimental than the other two. The only very slight negative is the noise made by people as they return to their accommodations in the late evening but this was not a big deal and we would stay again in a heartbeat!

This was one of the best AirBnb experiences we've ever had. From start to finish, Sarah and Shawn were communicative, reliable, approachable, friendly -- and the apartment was fantastic!! Exactly as described, perfect for our needs, and in the BEST location. Private and quiet but literally steps from the best of Bar Harbor--and just two blocks from the free island shuttle. Highly recommend and hope we get a chance to visit again!

Sarah&Shawn User ProfileSarah&Shawn is a superhost.

Shawn and I fell in love with Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park when we were students at College of the Atlantic in the late 90's. Life took us in many directions...California, Hawaii, Vermont...but eventually we made our way back to Mount Desert Island with our two kids in tow, and we are so happy to be back in this place we love. We bought a classic Maine home in the heart of Bar Harbor and renovated the third floor to be a welcoming cozy clean apartment for folks needing a home-base for Acadia adventures. Shawn works for a local non-profit that helps take care of Acadia National Park; I split my time between dabbling in wave photography here along the shores of MDI and keeping things rolling on the home-front. In our free time we enjoy hiking, swimming, gardening, cooking, music, and travel.
