We spent 3 nights in Riki's flat. It is located in a quiet area but 5' to either the bus stop, that will get you to the city centre in less than 10', or the subway that will lead you to kyoto's station in 3'. That flat is comfortable for 2 people and very clean. Riki's is very easy to communicate with and always answered in a short time. We would highly recommend this place for a short stay in Kyoto. Thank you Riki !

Location is the real winner here - Riki's apartment is tucked away from the pace of Kyoto but is still very easy to reach within one train stop of Kyoto station (on the JR line for anyone using a pass!) and nestled amongst a quaint neighbourhood with a lot of local charm - it really does give the feel for local living and is worth strolling through when the opportunity arises. There's a convenience store near the station, and behind that, a supermarket on the street off the major road for anything you might need. The factory you come across on the way to/ from the station is busy well into the night, but the noise is never an issue. The check-in instructions are perfect - everything from the Japanese address that the taxi driver was able to plug into the GPS to arrive after the rain without even the slightest hiccup, the instructions to get the key and after a bit of tinkering, getting the key system to work! There were a couple of very small things that only became issues on arrival - it's not major, but noticeable. There is a very small step up into the building, and a half-step elevation in the apartment separating the kitchen / bathroom from bedroom so it's something to keep in mind if you've got luggage. The apartment doesn't have a table or a chair - so be prepared to sit on the bed, or stand. The balcony is really just a window with some space for the washing machine - it's not particularly user friendly if you're wanting to hang any washing to dry but you can make do with it. With the fridge and the air conditioning both in the bedroom, this is probably only going to work for heavy sleepers, or those who exhaust themselves on the tourist trails of Kyoto, (of which there are many!) who fall asleep almost as soon as their heads hit the pillow As far as hosting goes, Riki didn't respond to a basic question so the communication wasn't great apart from the standard reminder of rules and notification for checking out. Also, it sounds petty but there was no spare toilet paper that I could find in the apartment - again, it's not a huge issue, but it's not something I would have thought I needed to check or even worry about while on holiday.

Great little apartment for spending a few days in Kyoto. It's near a train station which is just one stop away from Kyoto Station, from which you can visit anywhere in the region. The apartment itself is as described. It's small, but if you plan to be out exploring the area during the day then it will work nicely.
