Stay in a magical setting, steeped in history, over looking stunning views, a stones throw from the Élan Valley. Enjoy everything mid wales has to offer, with the Cambrian mountains, river wye, élan reservoirs, great local shops, cycle routes & more!

The space

A cosy cottage in the hills, on the edge of the Élan Valley. Cottage has an open plan living area, with wood burner and range. Is in a courtyard setting opposite our traditional longhouse, dating back to 1555.

We are lucky enough to live in a stunning valley, surrounded by beautiful hills, with the river wye, a stones throw away. An ideal break from city life, a peaceful quite place to get away from it all. Close to rhayader, and not far from Llanidloes. We are spoilt with shops that offer exceptional produce, including fresh organic fruit and veg, local consciously sourced meat- artisan bread, health food, markets, local art and crafts.
Rhayader is 3.5 miles south- car required, unless you would like us to hire bikes from the local bike shop in Rhayader- we can add to the cost to your bill- and have them here- for your arrival.
Our track is not suitable for low vehicles or sports cars. So please ask us if in any doubt about your car.
Will try our best to be here if you need anything, and will not disturb you, if you want privacy.

Our long house has been sited as one of the best remaining examples of welsh longhouses. And was featured on a s4c program : houses of the Welsh countryside, based on the book by Peter Smith 1988 and published by the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.

We can provide a food service if required- please talk to us about this- when you book.

Guest access

Our garden and tumble dryer ;)

Interaction with guests

We will be here if you need, but let you enjoy your break in peace. - unless you want to chat and have a glass of wine! :)

Other things to note

We try our best to provide a lovely getaway and always aim to maintain a high standard of quality throughout the cottage and with our hosting.

Our long house has been sited as one of the best remaining examples of a welsh longhouse, and is featured on the s4c history series: Cartref Cefn Gwlad Cymru- the house dates back to 1555. The cottage is 1844- and was a cow shed!

We can also arrange a special Falconry experience, which is available at our neighbours farm. Please ask for more details of the hawksdrift falconry experience when you book-
We can also provide details of bush craft courses- please ask.

We can provide breakfast/meals on request. And a shopping service.

We provide one complimentary basket of wood- £5 a basket afterwards.

Our cottage is geared towards adults and we don't accept children under 12-

At the side of the cottage- are some stone steps- which have no barrier at the top and may be a worry to some parents. There is also a small pond in the garden.

Please respect the surrounding countryside, stick to public rights of way, and remember to close gates! Be aware, we are surrounded by sheep !

Please do not help yourself to new towels or linen-
If you need something - please just ask.
Please use the coasters provided - as there's a lot of wood which stains.

I make a lot of effort to provide quality linen and bedding, so you are comfortable- Please try to take this into consideration- and try not to stain anything-

You may wonder why there is a cleaning charge- it is mostly to cover the time, and effort for washing and ironing the linen - and also the cost of replacing it.

Please leave our little house as you found it, and remember this is our home- thanks :)

This is one of the best air bnb i have stayed at. The location is as described and perfect for who wants to be surrounded by beautiful landscapes and away from the city. The cottage is as cosy as it gets and very confortable with everything one needs. The local town is close by, by car and has all the local stores, pubs and restaurant. Cottage is very clean and well maintained. And most importantly, the host Jessica will make sure your stay is comfortable and is very easy to get in touch with. She will make you feel at home. I will definitely recommand this place 100% and will not hesitate to comw back for few days away from the stress of the city. Wonderful stay. Thank you Jessica :)

If you value peace and quiet, beautiful countryside in a cosy, tasteful and toasty traditional Welsh cottage, then this is the place for you. Soaring Red Kites, and woodland birds are right outside the cottage and the location is perfectly situated for walking, birdwatching, and exploring this stunning secret jewel of Wales. Jess is a perfect host and made us feel very welcome and I'd highly recommend a visit.
