Simone was an amazing host and we had a great stay. She was very hospitable, organized a lovely tiki tour for us, and cooked some amazing meals. We were sad to leave Simone and wanted to take her with us! We were a bit uneasy from other reviews that said the residence is far, without internet, and without hot water. We were happy to find there is internet and plenty of hot water! The house is also in walking distance- about 20 minutes and it's a scenic route.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The pension is at the top of the valley and very very humid at the home. When you walk down valley is is so different in humidity that you can breath. The listing said no smoking. I guess that is for the guests? Simone and her friend smoked inside the house and outside the house, even at dinner. There were no towels supplied like in the listing picture. The bedroom door could not close due to damage. Spiders in the corners and ants all over the room, including the bed. Outside there is a fowl odor of goats and pigs. The house is locked when the owners leave and if you are out and return you are locked out! I stayed one night and decided to leave due to all of these issues. I have tried to communicate with Simone to get a refund for the nights that i did not use but she does not respond. I have opened a case with Airbnb. I should have listened to some of the other reviews and stayed away. Lesson learned.

We had a wonderful time in Hiva Oa and Simone was a very kind, generous and sympathetic host. She is responsible for the tourist office of Atuona (main village of Hiva Oa) and gave us many information and left us with loads of lovely gadgets. She only speaks French but her colleague Dolores can handle your requests and questions also in English. She recommended us a tour to Puamotus' wonderful Tiki archeological site with an English speaking guide, which was absolutely fanstastic and very well worth the price: John Ozanne, the guide, was great! The house is located a little bit far from the center of the village, so you can't really walk there, but Simone was so helpful to drive us back and forth. Thanks for that, Simone!

There is a reason we are attracted to a place. Follow the instinct, you will be led to explore your inner landscape.... Living at the Simone's, at the end of the village road hugging the mountain stream, you hear roosters, birds, goats and dogs... Cheering in the melody of running stream , reminding you of your nature and the many back yard fruits the host 'might be' serving for the breakfast that come along with your stay. Trust your reason you choose this island. Not many host on earth will feel so much for their new friends they make, and Simone is more than that, more than being sincere and Reliable, she is flexible with requests and arrangement. They can drop you in the village center on way to work or you can walk 20 min to beach front center n Gauguin Museum. Bring ur own shampoo n soap in French Polynesian destinations. There is a wifi cyber cafe near the museum.they pronounce (wee fee). Request or pay for sashimi , scallop sashimi or salad, and fresh coconut drink from their back yard if you are having dinner there ...the husband works as chef in a hotel n speaks better English . 24 hours stream flow music is rare find ! I found my pride in as an artiste .... This trip to Hiva Oa. The art to live starts from the art to appreciate ourselves ... The fresh air n the mountain stream water shower made it for me ! So did The people, the host, and the freedom in the wilderness ... Thank you ! Hiva Oa ! (Bring your own power plug adaptor)

Simone is a nice host and she cooks tasty meals every evening (for a charge). You are not allowed to use kitchen in the house. Breakfast was good, with fresh fruit. My room was clean, but super basic with very thin walls (you hear everything thats going on inside and outside the house). There is no proper internet connection in the house, wifi comes from somewhere else, so the signal is very weak or non existent. There is no hot water in the shared bathroom, and shower is pretty cold, as the water comes from the mountain. If you ask Simone, she can heat up some water for you. Make sure you bring a receipt of full payment from airbnb (if you do pay in full before arrival) and show it to Simone. Also keep in mind that Simone offers tours and services around Hiva Oa, she can give you a good deal too, but just ask her about prices before, in order to avoid surprises when checking out. You can visit most places on the island independently, just to let you know no need to hire a guide every time. The house is a bit far in the valley, 20 min walk from the village. Overall I had a good experience, but I think with the comfort level offered the room was a bit overpriced. Simone is going to improve though. Her water heater is arriving soon. Simone has a lovely family, everybody is super friendly there.
