Our newly-renovated cottage is in Ravensdale in the scenic Cooley peninsula, close to historic Carlingford village yet just an hour from Dublin and Belfast. Cosy, compact, traditional accommodation, sensitively restored combine the best of old traditions with modern conveniences against a backdrop of beautiful countryside, perfect for a long hike or just an afternoon ramble. Ideal for couples, solo adventurers or a family of 4. In short: cosy, full of character and in a picture-postcard setting.

The space

Our home is a traditional Irish stone cottage which has been sensitively renovated to combine the best of old and new.
Briefly, the downstairs accommodation includes a hall leading to a compact fitted kitchen with dining area and traditional hearth, a cosy living room complete with stove fire and a shower room and toilet. Upstairs is a good size double bedroom, which is accessed via a loft with a large sofa bed and a seating area. Just to advise, the photos were taken with a wide angle lens; which exaggerates the size of some of the rooms - in reality there are a little more cosy, but still nice and bright with a good sense of space and calm.

Outdoors, apart from the views and lots of garden space, there is a large patio area with bistro table and chairs and a barbeque is available for your use.

Facilities for the children are fantastic. As well as a mountain on their doorstep to explore, a 13-foot trampoline and a tyre swing will keep them occupied in the summer and, for the younger ones, there is a swing, see-saw & slide set.

Some of the other facilities and conveniences include:
- wireless internet access
- TV, DVD player and stereo
- Nespresso coffee machine
- Washing machine and dryer
- Hob, oven, microwave and fridge freezer
- Lots of books and board games

Combined, you have the best of both worlds – a home steeped in tradition yet with all modern conveniences.

This is a truly delightful cottage in a superb mountain location. The cottage is not only beautifully done - very tasteful and quirky, but is very comfortable and has magnificent views down over Dundalk - a sea of twinkling lights at night time. Mountain walks are available on your doorstep but not sure how far one can go. We received a very warm welcome and a lovely gift of wine, home made jam and mince pies. This is definitely a place I can highly recommend and I certainly hope to visit it again.

Stayed four days here with my wife, and wish it could have been longer. Cottage just as described...tiny and old, but beautifully modernized and with great use of space. The view is spectacular, and the location on the side of a mountain made for great hiking. Close to wonderful restaurants, cafes, sites of interest. Only caveat is that it's a bit hard to find...up a narrow, apparently unnamed country lane on the hillside. A bit stressful to find if arriving after dark, as we did, so if you arrive late pay close attention to the directions sent
