Our place is on Old Mission Peninsula, 4.5 miles to downtown, and 6 miles to airport. There is access and beach use on West Bay across Peninsula Drive.

The space

There are two upstairs bedrooms adjacent to each other and a full bath.
Bedroom 1 has a double bed and sliding door out to a deck overlooking the back yard. There is a door to the room which makes it fully private.
Bedroom 2 is a large, open area that does not close off with any door. It has a deck overlooking the front yard and the bay.

Guest access

Each room can accomodate 2 persons. For families or close friends, both rooms would be perfect. We will not make the open room available to anyone who is not accompanied by friends or family. In other words, if you are 2 people renting the private room, we will not rent out the other room during your stay. Only you will have option for use of that room if you have additional members in your party- up to four people total.

Interaction with guests

We have lived here since 1979. We are very familiar with Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, and Leelanau County. We will have maps, brochures and magazines about all the things to do and see here and will be happy to answer questions or make recommendations if guests so desire.

We have a great weekend staying at Garry's! Being able to have a fire on the beach was awesome. His house was in the perfect spot for what we wanted to do, downtown wasn't far and the wineries weren't far either. We would definitely stay again!

We absolutely loved our stay at Poison Ivy Row. Garry was so welcoming and helpful with suggestions of places to go in the area. The room was the perfect size for two, and the location was spectacular. Highly recommend staying here!

Poison Ivy Row was more than we asked for! Laurie was so lovely and accommodating! She was so thoughtful and really wanted our trip to be as wonderful as possible. The weather wasn't the greatest so we couldn't put all the great beach to use, but we plan on staying again and will next time. It felt like home every time we pulled into the driveway. I highly recommend it.

We had excellent contact with Garry before the visit and his home is very easy to find. It's right on the lake. We didn't meet Laurie as she was out of town welcoming her grandchild into the world. PIR is beautiful. The accommodations were much better than anticipated with a lovely view out front and a parklike back yard. This is a great place to stay on the Mission Peninsula with nice people. Thanks Garry for the time spent at PIR.

Garry was a very welcoming and informative host. We were in Traverse City for the film festival and Garry had good suggestions on where to park. The house located on the Grand Traverse bay was very comfortable and we had a relaxing time eating our breakfast by the water, which is a few steps right across the street. The location of the house on the old mission peninsula is just 10 minutes from the heart of downtown, but out of the main traffic and tourist areas. We highly recommend this property.

Our family had a lovely stay at Poison Ivy Row. Garry was the consummate host and made sure our three days very enjoyable. The location was idyllic with views of the bay. I can only imagine what the view would look like for fall colors. Our rooms had our own private entrance through a lovely back yard / garden. The private beach was wonderful and Garry even helped us start a big fire for s'mores and star gazing. The picture of the house does not do it justice as the place was built in the late 1880's and just oozes character and charm. Our rooms each had a balcony. The beds were cozy. A nice touch was the bottled water, breakfast bars, and other complimentary goodies. Just awesome location, charm, comfort along with great company. What else could you ask for....why would anybody get a hotel when you have Poison Ivy Row just a short drive up the Peninsula.

Glad you had a great stay here on Old Mission Peninsula. We were happy to have you! Thanks for heads up on the trick drain- I thought I'd fixed it, but after reading that it was sticking again, I had a plumber come last week, and with a few new parts, he has fixed it for good! No more sticking.

Not quite retired, but married 39 years to Laurie who loves to travel and plan our trips. We live in a picturesque, resort area- Traverse City, Michigan, on Old Mission Peninsula facing sunsets over the shores of West Grand Traverse Bay. Living on and near the water has prompted our love all kinds of boating from motor to kayak to sail. Any day on the water is a good day!
As guests we are out and about exploring not sitting inside watching tv.
As hosts, we will be happy to offer suggestions where to go to explore our beautiful neck of the woods, from the beaches of Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes to the wineries of Leelanau County and Old Mission Peninsula, to the downtown of Traverse City with its pubs, breweries and shopping. There is much to see and do here.
