This rental IS unique, with an artistic ambiance inspired by ancient civilizations and indigenous cultures. When you enter here you will know right away that you've come someplace special, and you will feel the peaceful energy. The house is set back from the street and surrounded by a secluded garden alive with many flowering plants and fruit trees. An outdoor deck with benches, tables and chairs allows you to enjoy eating, reading or meditating in the open air and sunshine. Inside the temperature never gets too hot, thanks to the design of the house, but there is central heating for those colder days and nights. A very comfortable queen-size futon bed with 100% cotton sheets and memory foam mattress pad is provided for guest in the living room. There are plush seating areas as well, and a small TV exclusively for guest use. In fact, the entire living room is exclusively for the guest's use. The host has his own bedroom, so host and guest sleeping areas are entirely separate, with two doors plus a hallway in between. Thus the guest has a great deal of privacy when compared to most other shared space listings on this site.
Guest also has access to other shared common spaces in the house. These include an amazing bathroom with ancient Egyptian motifs, the dining area (which can double as a work area for your laptop or writing), and the kitchen, which guest can use except for cooking on the stove top or in the oven. However, the microwave can be used by guest, as well as coffee maker, tea pot, refrigerator, sink, blender, and designated cabinet space for storing food. The guest is also provided with a dresser and small closet for hanging clothes and storing other personal items, and these are for their use exclusively. Guest also has free laundry access to the washer and dryer, and an off street parking spot if needed.
Interaction with guests
The host is very familiar with the entire Bay Area, and happy to assist guests in recommending sites to see, places to eat and shop, ways to get around, etc. The host is also very proficient in Spanish, and somewhat proficient in French. The host is very respectful of privacy and the personal space of his guests, and looks forward to hosting people who will be equally respectful of him and his home.
The great thing about the neighborhood of this rental is that it is a very mellow, peaceful and safe residential area, yet it is quite close to downtown Berkeley and the UC Berkeley campus.
Stores, restaurants, theaters, movies, gyms, health care, and public transport are all within easy walking distance of this rental. BART is 6 blocks away.
Other things to note
The host does his best to keep his home very clean and well organized. He asks that guests also do their best to clean up after themselves, whether in the kitchen, bathroom or elsewhere, and that they keep their personal items stored away in the areas provided for their exclusive use.
Regarding breakfast, guests are provided with natural juice, fresh fruit, plus gluten and lactose free cereal, oatmeal, and milk alternatives. Coffee and a variety of teas are also provided to guests.
**Please note that the host does not simultaneously book the shared space with bed and the private room bedroom for the same dates. Only one single guest at a time is booked for this house. The only exception to this policy is when two or three people are traveling together and want to book the private bedroom along with the bed in the living room. In that case they should contact the host with a detailed request and the host can respond with a special offer price if the dates are available.

I am a professional artist and musician - composer, performer and ethnomusicologist. I've traveled to over 80 countries and have a great respect for the diversity of human cultures and traditions. As a new AIRBNB host myself, and having managed my own private vacation rental in Maui for over a decade, I understand and value the importance of being a clean, honest and respectful guest when staying in the home of someone else. I speak English and Spanish, as well as a fair amount of French, some Portuguese, and a bit of Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Oromo, Swahili, Nahuatl, Mayan, Hawaiian and Ancient Egyptian.
