Very good host. Friendly and helpful. I wasnt here for a long time. But for the time I was Jessica's apartment felt like a home away from home

Jess was easy and helpful to correspond with - straightforward and prompt to reply. We found the flat to be just what we were looking for as artists (couple) visiting NYC: homey, private, interesting (wonderful book collection) - all round a clearly loved space. It is an older block, but it gives the place charm, and the necessities were up to standard: good oven, comfy bed. The neighbourhood is genuine Brooklyn: not in the least touristy - full of people living and working. The subway was an easy 10 minute walk in both directions (multiple options), and there is a supermarket right next door. The ride to Manhattan took us a decent half hour but it was a nice way to unwind at the start and end of the day. All up we had a great stay and it felt like home away from home.

Our stay at Jessica's flat was disapointing. Jessica was very nice and communicated well. However I would not recommend this place because of the level of dirt everywhere (bugs, floors sticky and dusty, kitchen dirty, bathroom a million years old and extremely dirty, the sheets were also not washed from previous guests and had hair in them). However jessica took out the cleaning fee of our stay and said we could bring the sheets in a cleaning place nearby but it was still unacceptable they were in that state and we didnt have time to clean them). Also the place is extremely old and that is not shown in the pictures obviously. Overall i thought the place was too expensive for what it was and was unhappy about the level of cleanliness.

I had a great week at Jessica's place while she was out of town. Great location and just about everything worked in the apartment. Lots of hot water & heat. Nice folks in around the building. Sure, you may see Wall-E's little friend on the wall sometimes. Sure, the locals may throw an impromptu dance party on the steps of the building. And yes, the steps up to the apartment are creaky, but this is Brooklyn! You're in the big city now, kid. Enjoy your stay at Jessica's comfortable and conveniently located apartment and you'll feel like a local. It's truly the best way to travel.

The apartment was exactly as shown in the pictures and Jessica was extremely flexible in arranging the key pickup at a local key cafe that closed later in the day, thus accommodating our late arrival in New York. The location is convenient, within 10-15 minutes walking to three subway stations (green, red and blue, so plenty of areas covered). There are plenty of delis and places to do the groceries nearby, however the area is definitely not the shiniest in Brooklyn. However, there are some really nice places to have a beer or eat nearby, there is definitely that "up-and-coming" vibe in the air. The apartment is very vintage, to the point of looking worn out here and there. The building itself is pretty rundown and in need of some love being put into it. Also be ready to climb some stairs, as the place is on the 3rd floor. The kitchen is nicely equipped, but we were quite aggravated by the daily bug sightings in the kitchen (even as we never left food or dirty dishes lying around). This is probably due to the old building and the kitchen lacking renovation. Possibly related was the overall feeling of lack of freshness and the grim aspect of the bathtub. Our main gripe is related to the minimal amenities provided, we stayed for a whole week and we were only provided with a midsize towel for the two of us, which he had to put in the laundry because it was not fresh. There were no hand towels in the house, not to mention large shower towels. Shower gel was not provided, two rolls of toilet paper for a week's stay. These are minor things, but they show the lack of attention to detail the host has put into hosting us. We definitely have not felt that the 'Essentials' amenities were provided as per the listing. We enjoyed staying at Jessica's, but by the end of the stay we kind of missed our clean and bug-free apartment. If our stay was shorter, I am sure this review would have been more positive.
