Key West has attracted numerous artists and writers, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and Robert Frost. At 410 Caroline Street is The Heritage House, once the home of Jessie Porter, a fifth-generation “conch," or Key Wester. Originally built in 1830, Porter purchased the Colonial home in 1930 and restored it. Her garden became the center of Key West society, and artists and writers frequently gathered there. Robert Frost spent many winters from 1945 to 1960 in her garden cottage.

The pictures do not do this place justice. Lovely cottage, lovely garden/patio and GREAT location at the north end of Old Town just a half-block off Duval. Close to everything. But because the cottage is in the rear of the property, it is quiet. No problems sleeping at night, even given the nearby music action and noisy throngs on Duval. We drove down to Key West where parking is tight. But there is a parking lot nearby where we paid $120 for 7 days, with the ability to drive in and out whenever. We used the car to drive to Fort Zackery Taylor, the best beach in town, where we snorkeled a few times. (You can rent equipment at the beach.) Mariana and Curtis were very accommodating, and quick to fix a minor sink problem. We ate ourselves silly, probably drank too much, caught a drag show, and danced our tails off at The Bull. We will return!
