Key West has attracted numerous artists and writers, including Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams and Robert Frost. At 410 Caroline Street is The Heritage House, once the home of Jessie Porter, a fifth-generation “conch," or Key Wester. Originally built in 1830, Porter purchased the Colonial home in 1930 and restored it. Her garden became the center of Key West society, and artists and writers frequently gathered there. Robert Frost spent many winters from 1945 to 1960 in her garden cottage.
The Cottage is within walking distance from bars and restaurants and all the attractions in down town Key West.
