La casa está en la plaza principal de Caión, un pintoresco puerto marinero situado a 11 km. de la capital municipal, A Laracha y Arteixo, sede de Inditex.

The house is in the main square of Caión, a picturesque fishing village 11 km from the municipal capital of A Laracha, and Arteixo, site of Inditex.

The space

Public transport is available to nearby Coruña (21 km). You’ll love my place because of the quiet area, great location, brightness, and cozy rooms. It's perfect for couples, families (with kids), and surfers.
For more information about Caión - and downloadable coordinates - visit the Turismo de Galicia website (Galicia el buen camino: Porto de Caión).

Our family house was built in the late 1930s and it's got a lot of character. The terrace, which you'll have access to, has lovely views towards the port.

Other things to note

Regarding essentials, there are no longer any supermarkets there, but there's a bakery and a small shop/kiosk on the main square. There's also a butcher shop that sells take away traditional food. As far as restaurants go, Bar Plaza is fine, as well as Bar Finisterre (in the same plaza), Porta Caeli (near the port), and Bar de Estrellita. For coffee/drinks with a view, you might enjoy the outdoor café 'Asteria Café' on the boardwalk.

Caion is an amazing place. The beach is awesome and everything is quiet and unspoilt. We really loved it here and will be heading back to Galicia next year.

This place (apartment, village, people) is great. We only booked two nights, but everybody (we, son 20, daughter 17) liked it so much that we want to come back for a longer stay. The children want to take surflessons. The waves and the beaches are perfect.

Mari's place was great. It's really spacious and there is everything you need to cook and stay there very comfortably as a family. There is a great view onto the port of Caion from the top terrace, and since Caion is very small, it's nice to be a ken to walk everywhere from the appartment. We loved walking by the beach and watching the surfers, and from there you can go on great hikes along the costa da morte. Parking is no problem and people are very friendly in this fisherman village. The best thing about our stay was Mari though. She helped us get to the starting point of our 4 day hike and came to bring us back all the way from Santiago de Compostella on our way back. She really took the time to help us out and gave us lots of information about the region. Our stay would not have been the same without her very warm welcome. Thanks Mari! We'd love to come back one day!

Thank you for being such great (and fun) guests, Beatrice! I'm so happy to have hosted you and your family! Our ride to Ponteceso and very brief museum visit was really fun, and it was a pleasure to drive you back from Santiago. I hope to see you again in Caión!

Mari was kind enough to meet us (and turn over the key) in Santiago de Compostela since we both happened to be there on our check-in day. She gave us a short tour, too, which we appreciated. Mari's house is very charmingly decorated - the furniture is antique looking (probably is antique). We found Caion to have a gorgeous beach which is easily within walking distance. There is the possibility of some noise from the bar downstairs, but this did not go late. The bar does open for breakfast, so you might hear them moving things around in the morning. But we'd stay again if in the area! Thanks!

Response from Mari:
Sorry for my late reply, Sarah! It was really nice to meet you and your family in Santiago. Thanks so much for your comments. I appreciate your honesty and understanding. It's true that there's not much I can do about the noise from the bar, but I should have at least let you know about it. Still, I hope you visit Caión again in the future! You were great guests!

We did not meet Mari due to booking so last minute, but she arranged for someone to meet us at the apartment at a time convenient for us, and was helpful and responsive to any questions we had during the stay, including a last minute request to extend our stay! The location was perfect for us, just by the beach in Caion, with a short drive to nearby surf spots and to visit Coruna. The apartment is huge! Even bigger than we expected, with a great kitchen and living room, and terrace with a lovely view on the harbour area. It was a little noisy at times due to the bar downstairs (mostly early in the morning rather than at night from our experience) - but only a problem in the front bedroom, and there are 4 double/twin bedrooms to choose from so it was fine after all. We would certainly recommend the apartment to others.

Thanks so much for your review, Federico! I really appreciate your mentioning the noise. I'll speak to the manager of the Bar Plaza; they're very cooperative and I'm sure they'll understand and try solve the issue.

Mari was brilliant, from meeting us and getting us parked and settled in, she provided any local information we needed and was there always to answer our questions. The apartment was a great surprise, much bigger than we had imagined, truly authentic with superb views and a location right in the square, just a minutes walk to the sea, the local beach, also in walking distance was great for the surf or just sunbathing. Loads of places to enjoy a meal and a drink within easy access. Access to A Coruna was also easy, a trip well worth making. We would recommend Mari and her apartment to anyone, the few days we spent here were the highlight of our entire trip.

Hi!
I'm a Galician who grew up in the Bronx, N.Y., but has been living in Santiago de Compostela for a while now - a long while. Though my family's originally from the Death Coast, I love it here in Santiago. The beach is the only thing missing in this small, but wonderful city. I'm an English teacher in love with her job.
